I bought some 20' climbing sticks from Academy for $49 each to preset some public land. After assembling I realized it was meant to be fully assembled then put against tree. I think I could do it, or perhaps do it 2 pieces at a time, but it will leave the bottom section close to the ground and easier to steal. It is also not the most easily portable option. I amleaning towards keeping 1 of them and returning the other 2 because I saw that they have a 2 stick version that does not attach to each other for $29.

I was thinking of using 1 of my hawk heliums to preset several of these 2 pack climbing sticks, but get it off the ground a bit to avoid easy theft. I think I could use a 3 step aider to asecnd to first step when going hunting, thus no heavy sticks/steps to carry and minimal $ lost if they get stolen. What do you guys think?

Yes, just buy 3-4 inexpensive, individual sticks. Set your stand, and remove the 2 bottom sticks. Find a place not too far away to hide them well or carry them in each time. IMHO, don't spend too much on public land presets since you'll inevitably get ripped off once in a while.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt!

Yeah presetting on public land is always a gamble. I would do as suggested above and just get some cheap ones.

I ended up getting 3 of the game winner 2 step packages. They were only $29, are fully assembled, and if they get stolen itis no big deal. I think I will use 1 or 2 hawk heliums to set 2 on a tree high enough to be out of easy reach. The good thing is now I only have to carry a 3 step aider or 1 hawk in to my tree. I might hide one ( game winner not hawk helium) like Dave H suggests. I hoping this works out because it is so much easier only carr ying one stick and it is a more quiet and quicker set up.

I usually use a one step home made tubular webbing aider with my bottom hawk helium. Have any of you guys used a 3 step aider on your bottom stick? I am debating whether to buy one of those or just carry in one hawk helium.
