New to saddle hunting, just ordered my Mantis yesterday. Looking to buy some sticks now. What's everyone's experience using an aider with lone wolf sticks seeing how they are a single sided step vs a double step like the buddy's or hawk helums?

works fine. Just have to mental work through where you transition from aider to step (i.e., start with the the correct foot)

Or you could replace one or more of the single steps with a DoubleStep :)
I prefer hanging my aider on the top step, not the bottom step, to prevent any kick out. I've used it with a double aider and also a swaider - search for swaider/knaider for more information here on the site.

I use a moveable 2 step aider on LW Minis hooked to the top of the stick with no problems. I have modified double steps on the top of the sticks though.

I'm messing with a five step aider that I put on the second step of a full length LW. I climb to the first step of the LW and take off the aider, climb to the top of the lone wolf attach another LW as high as I can then put the aider on the second step and so on, 27' with three sticks. You absolutely need to be wearing your linemans belt to do this. As with most climbing systems, practice, practice, practice.

When I cut my sticks down I left an inch of tube above the top standoff to loop my aider over. I tape the loop up to make it easier to get over the tube and keep it attached to my saddle with a bungee cord. As I climb onto the step the bungee lifts the aider off of the stick.

I use three uncut (I'm only 5'9) modified Hawk sticks (versa button with static climbing rope mod) with an aider I made from the original Hawk strap. I can get 20 plus feet easily. Just have to practice not to kick out the aider. Still haven't settled on the best way to carry three sticks.hawk.jpg

After trying several packs, I really like carrying my heliums with a Magellan bow pack from Academy for $59. The sticks can be attached where the bow or gun would go (you can also fit a jacket there with it) and you still can attach Predator on the outside of pack in addition.

Wow great price.... perfect size for what I want to bring...Thanks!

This is what I did with a couple sticks I cut down:

What I ended up doing was popping the bottom cap out and running a file around the inside of the tube to take the edge off. Then I tied an overhand knot in each of the free running ends. I pushed them up into the tube one at a time with the bolts removed. Then I slipped the bolts back through making sure they were in between the two pieces of webbing. This allows the sticks to stack perfectly and no mess. I always insert about an 8” piece of climbing rope to keep the loop open also.

Pretty short at 16 inches. That was my first try at the minis. I picked up 2 old sticks pretty cheap and I wanted to make a set of 4 so I just cut them in half.

I was thinking of cutting mine down to 24" I like your aider style!

Wow great method. I gotta try this! I am struggling to get an aide I felt comfortable using. Thks for sharing.

I use a swaider style moveable aider made from tubular webbing. I hang it over the top step and offset bracket on the stick. I have 2 pieces of 8mm accessory cord jammed in the bottom of the step, and a single piece in the loop that goes over the step. I use a short piece of the webbing to cinch it on my foot instead of using a castration band.

If you did a rope mod and have the original buckle straps I removed the buckle and used the strap to make an aider for my sticks using the sewn loop end for my bolts from the step to go through seemed sold all last year
