I had a similar situation trying to climb a tree the day after an ice storm. Couldn't get traction on the tree for anything and beat myself up because I was too stubborn to just hunt on the ground instead. No damage to anything except my pride, thankfully, besides bumps and bruises and soreness.
That I think is different than the aider issue.
Last season, I tried climbing 2TC on ironwood after and during a soaking rain. The trunks dry were fine but when soaked were slicker than snot. In the end, I climbed to height but were frazzled, exhausted and soaked.
Instead, eliminate the variables and what are the issues?
