What say you all? I bought some amsteel to make aiders for my hawk sticks but then I got to thinking about the stability factor, especially in the dark. Now I'm rethinking it and thought about ordering some cable aiders from EWO when they get them back in stock. It just seems like they hold their shape better and would be less of a hassle in the dark. Let me know y'alls opinions.

I put a section of rubber air hose on mine to keep them held open, about 6" or so...I've got skinny feet...has worked out well for me so far...

I use Amsteel and I did a bury in the middle for each step and have no issues. Also used orange Amsteel for the steps.

You could also pull the strands out of the inside of climbing rope and run the amsteel through it, stiffens it up a little bit... I have some hollow braided rope that I used when I was first messing around with aiders and rope mods. It was cheap, had some strength to it, and allowed me to experiment with some ideas without breaking the bank, and then use amsteel to copy what worked best. I like your project VF_MIKE...

You could flat-braid paracord (like a paracord bracelet) over the step portion to stiffen it up and keep it open. Lightweight, cheap, no noise.
