Air rifle recommendation

I'm really fighting with either the maximus or a nitro piston like the Hatsan 125. Sigh.
Spend the money. My hatsan (caused by this thread) is still a break barrel and has some up and down play to each shot. Maybe 100 shot break in will fix, but I might be regretting not getting a pcp.

Hatsan is still nice for a break barrel and has killed squirrels in the 2 weeks I've owned it.

Yeah I just keep feeling like a PCP will be too much work. You have to buy the rifle and then the pump and then a fitting.

Well then get the hatsan, I got the leaper utg bug buster scope, and start killing bushy tails. I do really like it when I'm not convinced the break barrel screwed my shot.

Does the hand pump take the fun out of it? Is it hard enough to pump, that you refrain from shooting at stupid stuff?
I have read others opinions online and many say if the maximum pressure is 3000 psi they do not want to pump. It is too hard. Others say 2000 psi is easy with the hand pump. That was a factor in me deciding to get the Maximus with it's 2000 psi max. I am still waiting for my scuba adapter so I have no opinion on the matter. Even after that, I will have no hand pump experience unless I buy one later.

I will post detailed but CONCISE descriptions of my scuba tank adapter experience when I have some.

Not at all. My Leshiy is not hard at all to fill to 250 bar (~ 3600 psi). I don’t have any plans to ever fill it to max capacity, which is 300 bar (~4300 psi). I can shoot it from 250 bar down to 130 bar and get about 15 shots. That is enough for two days of squirrel hunting.
It takes less than three minutes to pump it from 130 to 250 bar. And that is going slow and smooth on the pump

I was curious about the effort. My air compressor broke and my hobby car had a low tire. My buddy said use a bicycle pump. Ya after a minute of that I went and bought a cheap air compressor. Dumb idea to use a bicycle pump. lol

Been there done that! Daughter had a low tire on her Rogue. After about 10 min or so I'd gained about 4#. Went into the basement and brought up my lil Emglo, lol.

Are you running one or the $120 pumps or one or the $270 Hill hand pumps?

I have two.

The Hill MK5 is on sale all frequently for around $200. I’m very happy with it.

This one works almost as well, and has a desiccant filter included. I’m not sure if it will hold over time, though.

This one worked for two fills and then crapped out.

In summary, I think it’s probably worth it to spend the $200 for the AV/Hill or equivalent.

There is endless debate whether or not a filter is necessary (or even if it does anything at all) on a hand pump. My understanding is that argument swings more in favor of no filter necessary if you go slow and don’t pump to super high pressures (260 bar is the highest I ever go).

Ya, this aint gonna be me.....Ill get a tank or electric pump if I ever jump into the pcp mix. Even an electric pump takes about 4mins one of the comments said.

I might get a tank eventually, but with my gun, which has a regulator, I’ll never shoot it down to less than 120 bar. Therefore, I will never have to fill it from empty.
My usual scenario is that I take it hunting and might pop off two or three shots. That means I’m usually topping it off from around 225 bar to 250 bar. That takes less than a minute and basically no effort.
If you are going to plink a lot and expect to shoot more than 15-20 shots/day, get a tank or compressor for sure.

If I were buying an air rifle right now, I would get an Air Venturi Avenger and a cheap ebay hand pump. The rifle is $300 new with an adjustable regulator. No adapter necessary to fill.

These generic pumps hold up very well and can be serviced.

I just watched a cool video comparing 3 different level bulpup air guns. I was impressed with the accuracy. I had no idea these guns could shoot such small groups, the best shot about a 1 hole group at 50yds. WOW. Anyway the cheap gun was Hatsan and it did extremely well in the review.

3 gun test

Did you get a filter for that? Which one?

I see now that these guns have an effective number of shots, then should be refilled for optimum performance. So I get your point of only needing to top it off.
