So I’ve been lurking around and apprehensively reading your ranch fairy posts. Duck hunting consumes most of my funds so I wasn’t really interested in changing my archery setup. After shooting a doe at 40 yards and watching my arrow flap around as she ran off I thought I’d dig a bit deeper. I’ve been watch his videos and reading your posts and have decided to build some new arrows. Yep, you guys stink and should put a warning on your heavy FOC arrow posts. I guess I’m a fairy dust “dabbler” now and won’t be buying any more duck decoys for a while.

And PS, do you have any advice on how to explain to your wife why there are all of a sudden so many packages arriving in the mail? Asking for a friend.

send them to work......that's what my friend does

Welcome to the duster club. Can't help you with the wife issue. Other than order everything from one place at one time...

Or buy in-store. Less selection but I had no problem getting to 550gr with foc in the mid teens

I was shooting a 407 TAW arrow for years and not having any issues. I use GT Hunter XT 340. Shoot a 70# PSE with a 29" draw. I added a 50 grain insert to the back of the insert and had decent flight. I then cut 1" off my arrows (were too long to begin with) and had a huge increase in arrow flight.

This whole change cost me the tool and the 50 gr. screw in inserts. Increased my FOC and TAW for $30? I know its not considered "heavy" but I wasn't having issues before so its only an improvement.

Note - in 26 years of archery hunting I've never hit a shoulder, luckily. So there in lies why I never had an issue most likely.

I’d probably sell my kids before I sell my duck gear. I did buy a new pair of rogers breathable wafers this year that put a dent in my budget.
Roll tide. I just bought a push pole for the Cash Money Honey. Finally got around to sanding and painting my rusted old 500. It's almost time here

Take her hunting with you so you can convince her the packages are beneficial to both of you

Was that Roll Tide remark a jab? I’m a Clemson fan ya know.

Contrary to popular opinion you don't have to spend a fortune to increase arrow FOC and arrow penetration potential. You also don't have to go whole hog and build a 650 grain arrow. I did, but that's another story. I also built up some 550 grain arrows that will put a hurting on a deer.

Somewhere over 600 grains starts to generally get more expensive and time consuming to get right but it's not second mortgage expensive.

My suggestion is to get a good cut on contact broadhead anywhere from 150 to 225 grains, use a good brass or stainless steel insert and tune your arrows to your bow. Make sure the bow is mechanically square to start with. This should put you somewhere in the 500 to 550 range and above 19% (where the magic starts to happen)..

What poundage are you drawing, and what draw length?

I’m at 60 lbs and my arrows are 28 inches. 8.2 gpi 400 spine victory v sport. I’m going to try some 100 grain brass inserts and start with 125 grain heads for now. 26” draw.

I think that's a lot of weight up front for 400, I'd think you'll probably end up at 300 spine
