Now that I started tinkering with this "SADDLE" thing again I have been playing with multiple ideas, here is my latest. My son borrowed my turkey seat this past spring and broke one of the leg brackets so I got to thinking...… What if I attached straps to it and made sort of a Bosun's chair/saddle deal?? I could attach a foam seat pad to it for cushion and of course I would also wear a harness. I built a DIY saddle already, with an intergraded cushion but I am afraid it will cause excessive hip pinch from my initial tests.saddle idea 2.jpg

I did something similar with the sling seat of an old man treestand. Definitely solves hip pinch. I would recommend wearing an RC harness with it. Ultimately I ditched it when I get the JX3. But it can definitely work.

I thought about doing something like this but it was easier just to build a preacher seat out of plywood and webbing.

I like it. Can't wait to see what you come up with. You could be onto an inexpensive, light, simple DIY idea. Keep us posted.

Also thinking of doing the preacher stand-off post too incase I want to nap...……...LOL

Absolutely! The stand-off is the best part about the preacher seat! It’s not as easy to get into shooting position as my fleece saddle but I could sit on it all day.

Love the idea of the stand off too. Can't wait to see some pictures of your idea.

So I have the seat finished. Next step is to sew on the straps that will connect the seat with a section of the harness (to be determined) so it will actually have me it a seated position.

What I did was take a section of an old scooter seat a trim it down to fit in the existing seat cover that I had made and already sewn to harness seat. Since I had to cut the seat into sections, I placed a thin sheet of tin under it I than took some spray glue (3M Hi-Strength Contact adhesives) and sprayed the scooter seat and section of foam and joined those. Then I took two large gel packs (used for freezing and than like a cooler to keep things cold), sprayed them and the foam and stuck them together. Than put them them in a little cover and than into the seat part already on the harness. Last part was to sew everything shut using an Awl.

I have attached a few pictures, nothing fancy of where I am stopping for the night. I will grab some pics when it is sewn to the harness and ready to use.

I don't think you are nuts at all. Ive thought of the same thing a couple times but haven't gotten into it yet. I feel like Id be happier with just a JX3 but I think it could work really well. Could eliminate any need for a platform and knee pads all together

I threw some shorter 1" side straps on last night with an AMSTEEL bridge and was getting hip pinch so I will go with 2" seat belt webbing next, slightly longer to see if that helps?!! I tried shorter side straps to keep my bridge from getting to long but it didn't work for me. Will keep everyone updated, haven't given up on the idea yet...……. oh, will try and snap pic's next time!!! The seat portion felt comfortable as long as it was under my butt properly!! I can even add a cushion if needed.

I tried the 2" webbing side straps and am still getting hip pinch as the AMSTEEL connects to the strapping right on my hips. If I would make the side strapping any longer the bridge would get in the way SO, I have one last idea to try tonight...….. it involves tubing and a hydraulic bender;)
