I’m going to initially use Wild Edge steps with aiders as my climbing method. I’ve looked at the knaider and swaider and thought, why couldn’t I splice two lengths of 1/4” amsteel to make loops for a hook/carabiner on the top of each and another loop in the bottom for each foot to go in? I’m thinking that you could push a piece of shock cord / bungee cord through the middle of the one for the knaider to keep it against your shin? I know webbing is cheaper per foot, but I’ve got some amsteel sitting around and don’t have my aiders yet, so I thought about doing this just to use what I got. Am I on the right track here, or is this just a stupid idea?

I don’t know the webbing will distribute the weight better. Might hurt a bit. 1/4” might be alright but any thinner would probably cut into the sole of your boot.

I could see potential there.

I can't find it now but there was a YouTube video where a guy made whoopie slings out of 3/8 tenex and used as a foot aider (Swaider in our terms). I think you could make one the same way for a Knaider. The benefit of using the Whoopie concept for the foot loop is that you can cinch it down so it will stay put on your foot as you take pressure off of it.

Like all aider systems, use at your own risk. These are off the safety/recommendation charts.
