Amsteel on sticks

Since I get so many questions on how I get my amsteel tight on my sticks, I made the following video

How long was the piece of Amsteel when you started (pre loop splice)?

About to order some and want to get it right.

I'm sorry I dont know. You don't really have to copy what I do, get enough rope for the trees that you plan on hunting and then add 8 to 10" for your loop. I really seldom measure any more. I have a 100' piece of amsteel and I put a loop in it put it on my stick wrap-around the bottom go over my versa but go back round the bottom and around my verse a button and that's how long I make it most of the trees I hunt I have plenty of extra amsteel.

Good advice here. When I converted to amsteel I made one piece 6" shorter than the others thinking no big deal. The way I wrap my rope on my sticks for packing it sure would be nice if it was 3" longer. Well worth taking this aspect into account.

I start with 8ft. I start with 7" and that leaves 5.5" to bury. They recommend 12" for 1/4", so do what you feel comfortable with. I back feed the last 6" back into itself. This gives me enough to go around twice like Dave and have approximately 12" tail hanging.
