Got this beast of a white rotary model #77 running and been watching loads of always89y videos on YouTube. Decided I had to try it.

I made one of the templates like he does in the video. A bit different in terms of measurements but same process. So far, so good.

I figured out that a cheap hair straightener is PERFECT for making pleats and folding over grosgrain.

This is a 5 inch pleat and should wind up pretty nice!

You should see the curved sides together so it takes the shape of your backside - not the straight edges. Otherwise you would just cut out an oval.

Are you talking about where the pleat ends on either side?
When attaching the two pieces together you connect them on the curved side, not the flat side like you have it. When sewing the two curved sides together it will come out as a cup and will not lay flat. I will send a pic in a bit

This a pleat he made. I believe you are talking about the kestrel clone build which is two pieces sewn together to make a cupped saddle.

Here is the pattern from the DIY Kestral Clone thread. Zoom in on my photo and you'll see how you put the two pieces together. When you sew the curved sides together it takes on a nice saddle shape.

This is done by laying the curved edges together and sewing along it.

Correct. A cupped saddle will form to your bottom a lot nicer than oval top and bottom.

This is not that kind of saddle. It’s a pleat style saddle like the cruzr xc.

Think of a cross between the cruzr xc and the phantom.

I finished up that saddle and it works but it doesn’t LOOK so good as I want it to. So I decided to work on some other projects!

Project of the day #2.

3 step aider with 18” steps. Bottomland webbing with strap webbing in the foot boxes for support.

I’m gonna hack my stick to just above the cam cleat and run my scout on the bottom of the stick with no step other than it.

Alright boys and girls. Got my first saddle done that I’m willing to show anyone. This is essentially the shape of a phantom with the LB loops of a kestrel and the pleat of a flex, made out of 100D cordura. Weight rated everything. But as the Russian said, “if he dies, he dies.”

Good job. looks good. Do you get any hip pinch? I wish I had a sewing machine so I could make one. I'm still struggling with a DIY fleece saddle. just cant seem to get the size right
