Another Benefit of the Saddle Hunter

One thing I realized a couple years ago is that once you get a tree set up to saddle hunt, it becomes part of a "stable" of stands you can always go too. I realized this one day when driving a four mile stretch of two-track In my Beloved St. Helen MI when I kept telling my GF "I got a tree set up back there" As we rolled down that road I realized that's all I was rambling about. She was bored and getting testy cuz she'd heard that line a few too many times but it really got me thinking that no matter what wind, weather, or hunting pressure from year to year, I had literally dozens of places I could go to in a heart beat. That felt great to know that. I honestly estimate I have 40 trees prepped in one area alone from hunting there for the past 5 years.

No metal stand hunter shares that amazing benefit!

You are absolutely right. I just went down my list and at this moment I have 39 trees set up for my saddle, with more spots I have scouted but haven't gotten to yet.

I don't always do this, but if I am hunting a spot that isn't too deep or a good spot that isn't too hard to access, I like to have another spot setup within walking distance. That way if someone else is hunting near my spot I have another option immediately available. I do this more for my after work spots where I can't always hunt as deep as I would prefer.

Thanks! I hate the feeling when I get to a spot and I either see another guy in a tree or I have someone come walking by after me. It mentally ruins the hunt for me (even though I know that the hunt isn't always ruined).
