Another Sitdrag mod idea

I wonder if you could use carbon fiber rods instead of the aluminum. I was thinking this and tubular webbing but saw you figured it out. Looks really comfy! Another great job

I was tempted to try an arrow shaft since we are only talking about a 6 inch length of tubing, but I had the aluminum lying around. Pete

SD Convertible- proof of concept.

Saw someone mention a “pocket” to add some foam pad like a double layer hammock. Why not works in that application. This is a modified sit drag style including the @Peterk1234 “stringer” mod. Also saw someone mention seat. Here is a go. Can roll as a typical 2 layer SD, add CCF if desired for insulation/comfort or add insert on CCF for extra support. This with 1/2” ply but from trying it think something with a bit of “give” would be better and lighter. HDPE? Peterk1234 stringer gives the insert th support it needs. As always at ground level and harness during testing and use. Also CCF encloses the insert so no direct stress to material.

Tried it with some fiberglass rod. Good news is it gets rid if the pinch associating with the webbing and material bunching. Bad news if you are a fatty like me they find a place to dig in on top. Fiberglass that length seems plenty strong though. Will save you the horror of seeing what I mean.

I made my sit drag longer (the material part) so I wouldn't run into that issue. I made the bridge loops shorter though so the overall length was about the same.

Will give it another go, but make a traditional SD style cut. The only time it was a problem was sitting, even then could fiddle with it, I lean mostly so really no big deal. Great idea like a mini bridge style double layer hammock. Takeaway I got was the fiberglass worked. Will try with stock from an aluminum arrow or old crossbow bolt and see what happens. You have a fertile mind my friend. I enjoy seeing the innovation.

BTW what ever made you think of those furniture brackets for an ROS? picked some up and got an OCB from double steps but haven’t messed with them yet. Didn’t even know there was such a thing.

@Sheldon I was looking for an alternative to ameristeps because they were so expensive. So I just started searching for corner brackets. They work really well. I have four or five set up with ratchet straps as permanent platforms.
