Another vote for one sticking

I climb on the repel rope because if i drop my stick or need to get down for some reason i can, i also pull my bow or stand up with it. All you need is a friction hitch like a Michoacan (one you can break under load) and a biner attached to a second bridge or LB loop with a Munter wrapped around it to repel

I also climb with my rappel rope and attached by the madrock. So my rapel system is already set up as I climb

Short answer is yes. I climb on a separate tether and only use my rappel line to rappel. My device for my tether is a ropeman and my device for the rappel is the Mammut Smart 2.0 with an autoblock backup on my LB loop.
I had a problem transferring my weight off of the tether and Ropeman1 to the repel rope one night, if you don't have something to stand on it can be a problem

So just built out a one stick with ewo parts, a monarch angled platform, sewn 3 step aider. It’s amazing. I’d messed around with a hawk stick and cam cleat before but this feels much more solid on the tree.

A few new questions: planned on climbing with my rappel rope as tether. Seems easy enough to tend slack until I get to the lower step and platform. Tried breaking out lineman’s belt as well as moving the girth hitch up when I’m on the stick/ platform. What do most people do to minimize slack in the set up?

Advancing the tether: how is the most smooth way to do this? No ohm tether yet, but can see the value of that. Wearing some gloves and just putting slack in the hitch, raising, then locking in place with nite eyze tie. Do some type of handles on the girth hitch look help much?

So far liking it. Had been rappelling down already so comfortable hanging and manipulating sticks. Think it’ll be a good method if I keep practicing. Certainly like that it’s one set of equipment and is pretty easily done.

Thanks for any tips!

I have noticed a few folks mention the time to setup to rappel rather than 1 stick or 2TC down. I assume that means you are not climbing and hunting on your rappel line and also adding a device such as ATC, an 8 or some other device. Is that correct?
Same as woodsdog2. Climb on my tether/kong then decend on my rap line/MadRock. There is no way I could one stick down from 22’ in the time it takes for me to setup my rappel kit and rapdown. IMO the whole purpose of rappelling is to avoid using an aider on the way down. I can’t even wrap my mind around the PIA one sticking down would be. Admittedly, it’s probably just something that requires practice like everything else, but for me it sounds like a lot of unnecessary risk that I can do without.

I hear ya. I havent tried 1 sticking down but it seems like it would be cumbersome at best unless you really have your system for it down pat. I hunt off of my rappel line though so all I have to do is flip a munter on there and head towards earth. First year 1 sticking I used an ATC and it did add time and fiddle factor. The less metal and less fiddle the better imo. If santa brings me a saddle, I have a 2TC system in mind that I think will work really well for me. I tried to mess with it on a hunt last weekend with my RCH but couldnt get stuff adjusted right to make it work efficiently. A dual bridge saddle will fix that part.
