Anyone hunt powerline clearings?

So I have some public land within about a half an hour drive of my house that has a big patch of oaks on both sides of a high powerline clearing that I’m thinking about setting up on. My question is have any of you hunted these clearings and if so are they worth the time and effort, or should I focus somewhere else? Thanks.

I think it depends on how close you are to water & cover as well as how many folks are through the area (is it difficult to get to?).

Totally do it. Powerlines are easy hunting. Pick a well used trail.

I hunt a buried pipeline. Agree with Red Beard, so much easier to find entry/exit points, trails, etc. Think of it as a really really narrow field.

I bought a tripod just to hunt the power line with a rifle! Do it!

Im not an expert but I spend a lot of my time driving around on public land for work. In 5 years, I cant really remember seeing deer a long these right of ways. And my crews looks every time. That is in NW AR though.

Best spot I know of is on power line. It’s a dynamite spot.

. There is a swampy area just to the northwest of the market and the public lands go for a ways to the north.

We had a huge powerline that ran through the middle of our lease. The deer would cross through it all the time. Find a trail/trails and set up 20-30yds inside it. You'll see deer

Best advice anyone can give you when hunting powerlines is... be ready. Position yourself to only shoot your strong side (song side to the lines) and HAVE YOUR BOW IN YOUR HAND. Deer cross powerlines all the time but they do it fairly quickly. It's a cover to cover transition. Doubt you'll see them graze across the clearing.

So I know the answer depends on a lot of factors, but for those of you that hunt these cuts, do you find deer cross them just in mornings and evenings between bedding and food sources, or do you see deer crossing during the day?

I used to hunt power lines quite a bit. If you can find a low spot that’s kind of brushy and maybe a little hidden, it can be dynamite. Not all power line crossing are created equal, though. Stick to portions that relate to heavy cover. Also, like was said above, be ready. I’ve never seen a buck cross a power line slowly.

I have a buddy stand on power pole in a power line clearing. It works great for rifle season and i kill a deer there every year!

Find you a dip between two ridges it can be dynamite!
