I love saddle hunting but after 4 or 5 hours I found I would like to be able to sit. I started using a Chippewa stand as my platform but one it adds bulk to my pack, weight don't bother me and two it is not as stable as a regular platform ie. Predator or the podium!! I figured I could buy some 3/8ths inch aluminum say 4"s by 10"s and attach it to the Scout platform two inches to hold it to platform and a two inch overhang would add depth to the platform(seat) maybe even 1/2 inch plywood. Curious if anyone else has tried this. I see guys on You tube doing it with a WE step. Thanks! Shawn

Check this out...

OOAL is selling a sitting platform called the Rut Roost. Saw a YouTube video of someone demonstrating how it works. It’s about 3lbs and attached waist high and fold up and out of the way like a tree stand seat but folds down to sit and straddle when you need to rest the feet. Should work well in conjunction with a stick platform like the scout or Monarch. The email I got said it was phone call order only and cost $130.

I’m gonna give it a shot for next season as some setups I know I’ll be okay for a short hunt on just the step platform. But if it’s a winner of a spot I’ll leave my sticks up and come back with the rooster for a longer hunt.

Edit, found the YouTube link:

Yeah, not what I was looking for. Matt said he would make me a scout that was a bit wider like 6"s but it may be months before he could get to it. I am pretty sure I can do it fairly easily by just adding on. I thought someone may of tried it already. Shawn

Are you having trouble sitting in the saddle due to the size of the scout? I tend to straddle the tree with my legs when I’m sitting. Maybe look at getting a couple of squirrel steps you can put on your scout strap and keep them at the 3 and 9 position that way you can widen your stance and be easier to sit down.

Not at all, I just like the option of being able to sit down and say eat my lunch or have a hot cup of tea. I used my Chippewa Ghost as a platform this year and it worked well and gave me the option to sit. It was just a bit bulky to carry and I figured the scout paired with my Predator platorm may be a great option. I believe I may buy the XL or Mission platform and pair it with the Scout as a seat. Weight would be under 8#s as well. My old Ghost is only 8#s but does not handle side pressure that well. My last resort is to buy the new .5 from LWCG and use that! Shawn

I all day sit all the time and have no issues eating or drinking from a saddle. FWIW
