Anyone One stick with platform?

I’m thinking about ditching my one stick for a nice roomy platform. I’ve scene one sticking done with the small OOL platform but wondering if anyone does it with something bigger like a seeker or predator. I noticed XOP has one coming out soon that has aider attachment loops.
In my head the only issue I can think of is, the farther the platform sticks out from the tree, the more difficult it will be to climb onto from the aider.
Anybody got some personal experience with this idea?

I used to do it with the xop edge. Never had an ultimator though, just a homemade one with webbing. Also I had the aider more toward the middle to keep my feet closer to the tree. Settled on two steps and not three because I used the stock strap that came with it and not a cam cleat, so my move were a little smaller. It was actually pretty easy. However, I have since went back to steps, not that rappelling wasn't fun. I just find that it's all about the same time up the tree if you taking your time and being quiet and a lot less sweaty.

I am also thinking about trying steps as well. I was watching nutterbuster’s video the other day about the cranford steps. That’s something to consider. I didn’t even think about ditching the rappel rope and climbing down but that might be an idea to save weight as well. Thanks

I used to do it on the XOP edge too, homemade single step aider. It's ok. I use a 3 step on an x-wing now, I like that much better but found myself carrying sticks late season.

I also bought a mini shikar with a scout on top to try this year so I must feel like there's a lot of room for improvement over climbing with my platform

If I were to do it again, I would just get a one stick with double step tops and set my platform at height. However I find in Florida I'm already and sweaty mess walking in so it a little less sweaty to use steps as opposed to no sticking or one sticking.

If you run a strap through the inside tube, the treehopper platform works really well for this...

Climbing it can be sketchy if you don't have a system that tends your tether slack as you go...

Lots of other suggestions in that thread too.

I modified my Mission and use it as a climbing platform. It's a very personalized process but it allows you to take your own creative ideas and goals and turn them into what you like. I love mine but I'm 100% sure it's not for most guys.

Climber1.jpgclimber2.jpgClimber3.jpgclimber2.jpgClimber3.jpgI have the Barron Ridge Ascent 2 and I put the ultimatader on it. I find if it's close to the tree I have a hard time climbing over and on to the stand if I put it to far to the outside of the stand I have a hard time keeping my toe on the tree when climbing.

Someone maybe @2Sloe (I'm old can't remember) made a climber out of a Summit Open Shot seat. I started messing with it last month. I think it's the right size and works awesome. I also use a whoopie sling climbing aider I got from Wild Edge for getting around the bottom thicker part of the tree and getting around branches. Works great! I've got to take a new picture, I've since put .100 thick aluminum diamond plate on it instead of the plywood and took off over a pound of weight.climber2.jpgClimber3.jpgClimber1.jpgclimber2.jpgClimber3.jpg

Sorry I don't know what I did to get all these duplicate pictures?

I used to run a 2 step aider on my predator and just use my platform as my one stick. Never really had any complaints with that set up. I started 2TC this past season and just set the platform once I’m at height.

I've never tried no-sticking but I love one-sticking. My questions are: doesn't the platform keep the aider too far off the tree? and is it hard to step up onto the platform from the aider? did you add a cam cleat to make the disconnect easier when reaching down?

I use a OAL Ridge Runner or a Trophyline Mission platform. The Ridge Runner is a little heavier than some others but is rock solid and roomy. The Trophyline Mission is heavier at almost 6 pounds but having that much real estate to move around on is worth the extra weight to me. I also have a Hawk stick with one of their 6"x12" platforms on top of the stick. It just does not have enough room for me to get comfortable. For me it is worth a little extra weight to be comfortable. I don't walk in far, I typically mountain bike or e-bike near my location and walk the rest.

I didn’t run my aider all the way at the end of the platform, I ran it about halfway so it was closer to the tree. I never had a problem with my knees hitting the platform when stepping up, your legs are more bowed out than straight up and down. I’ve always just used the stock cam buckle strap, but I do think I’ve seen someone add a cam cleat to their platform.

I use an EDP for no-sticking (and also 2TC). My suggestion for getting over the platform is to put a small prusik next to your tree knot/loop/link/or carabiner on your tether. This will help hold your tether to the tree and limit slippage, but then it is a great handle for when you are using your aider and especially for getting over the platform edge. Often I will have to climb onto my platform on my knees before standing, and admittedly, I always have slack when I get up there. But, you can advance your tether from your knees and not have as much slack when you stand. JMO

Just bought an RDA one stick and climbed with it Monday after a .75mile hike in to Pull cards. Definitely going to use the system next season because I love my seeker. I climbed with my seeker hanging off the back of my saddle with no issues

Do you have any pics??? I have thought about using my mission for this too.

I'll get some up soon
Thanks, I have tried a few ideas, but the fiddle factor of attaching the mission to the tree each time was terrible and I just stuck with the one stick and mission. I tried camming the mission every time. I tried not camming and just attaching the stick and leaving the mission vertical. That kept the aider to close to the tree for my feet to really get into the steps.
