Back up tether

Is it a good idea to have something for a backup instead of relying on just one tether. If so what are some doing

I think if you check your tether frequently and it is not cut or frayed it should be totally reliable. Backup to how you're attached to the tether isn't a bad idea. I have a Ropeman/Carabineer attached to my bridge. As a backup, I put my linesman rope through a carabineer/prussic as high up the tether above that as possible.

Why would your tether fail? I Sometimes look up and say to myself if that tether fails I am in for trouble, so I could build in redundancy there with a second attachment but what if my bridge fails? You have to inspect and trust your gear
