Back ups you carry with you

2 headlamps on one band is a slick idea. I carry two headlamps, and my battery bank for my phone also has some surprisingly bright LEDs on it. I also always have 2, and sometimes 3 compasses. I am way more scared of getting lost or just not being able to find the boat I need to get back home than I am of needing a new carabiner or a second rope.

Black diamond on one side (white, red and green), 4 AAA rechargeable batteries one one side
Zebra light on the other (white), 1 18650 rechargeable battery on the other.

Just rotate the headband 180 and I am in business.

I always have an extra pocket knife clipped to my pocket so if I fall and get hung up I can cut anything free that is binding me (shoe lace on a climbing stick etc). I always keep my phone on me in a secure pocket in case I need to call from any area. I carry a spare small headlamp in my pocket. I carry a smaller spare carry as you go aider in case I drop my main one while climbing (5/8" webbing with just a single width of gorilla duct tape as a spreader instead of 1" webbing with a wide rope spreader inside).

I always carry two extra bieners that are not needed, but seem to always find a use for. Always a few extra sheets of TP and, if way back in a remote area in the evening, two sources of fire and a battery bank just in case. I guess my compass/iphone GPS are redundant to a point too.

Put your weight in the foot loop, lower your main tether a bit. Put your weight on the main tether, lower the foot loop a bit. Ad infinitum.

One thing I always bring is a large treble hook I found years ago somewhere. It has rounded tips and I keep it on the end of my pull up rope. I can’t tell you how many things I fished from my stand that I’ve dropped.

A long runner and a foot loop. If you find yourself hanging from your tether, you can use this in conjunction with your linemans belt to unweight your tether and shimmy down.

I used to carry a screw in step. I had a stick kick out once and tried to use it to unweight my tether....its very difficult to screw in the step low enough that you can step onto it. I ultimately got it to work and got down, but it was quite an ordeal.

Same thing for me but with a spare biner and a hair tie. I wrap the hair tie around the latch of the biner to keep it open to Hooke things saved me a few trips down when I was using a climber.

Lots of good info. I really like the idea of two lamps on the same headband- I think I'll adopt that one for sure.

I need to really look at my setup and cut some stuff out. There are some items I can definitely cut out, and some that I think can turn into a dual purpose item.
