I know there's a ton of threads on here regarding packs and another of very good info. However I'm not finding much info on the alps traverse eps pack.does anyone have any experience with this pack? I'm looking into upgrading my current pack for something built better for carrying my setup. Currently running a field and stream pack but this thing kills my back with my 4 hawks predator platform and extra layers. I would like to have the ability for packing out meat too as I will be moving to the black hills of South Dakota this coming year. I love the idea of using a meat self for loading my sticks on as well as having a place for my bow at the same time. I really like the mystery ranch popup but I've herd it is a loud pack and don't think I can afford that sweet rig yet. Any help is appreciated!

I have one and used it for saddle hunting for a while, it is kind of big and wanted to ride on my saddle when i wore them both and material was a little loud i thought.

Is there enough room for 60 lbs of meat in the expanded section? Just looking at the pics and it seems kinda small. I've never owned or used a frame pack before.

Does it have a decent frame that is connected to the waist belt so that you can get the weight off your shoulders and on your hips? Without a good frame (internal or external), then only the weight at the bottom of the pack will go to your hips and stuff lashed to the outside of the pack will be almost all shoulders.

Does it have an adjustable yoke system? If not, even if it has a good frame connected to the waist belt, then if it is not long enough for you, then you are going to have too much weight on your shoulders.

For me, comfort so you can walk deeper is number 1. The probably sell these at Sportsmans Warehouse. I'd try one out first and even put a few heavy items in it and see if you can adjust it so that you that the weight is off your shoulders and that you can walk as far as you need with it.

I have an Alps daypack (without a frame) and the quality is really good for the money. If it had a frame, then I'd use it to hunt more. Right now, I only use it for brief hikes and ground hunting where I hardly carry anything.

I watched a few videos on it and it does have a frame, i guess its considered a internal frame that is removable from the looks of it. I have also been looking at the eberlestock x2.

What kind of setup did you run when using that pack? Sticks and platform?

Im not fond of that expanded section mainly for the reason it doesnt look like it has any type of cinch strap support across the top opening once expanded for extra load. I feel like that would end up tearing the sides out at worst and allowing your heavier items to gall away from your body while carrying at best.

I have the Eberlestock X2 and I really like it. I carry 3 full size hawk sticks, a predator platform and any other essentials. I haven't thought about the weight I'm packing since I started with it.. The furthest I've packed this setup is around 2 miles.

I would imagine that mesh material just tearing off under heavy load haha.

I'm not a fan of the design either, looking like mystery ranch is the way to go

I personally have the X2. I love that pack. I carry the mission in it with either 5 WE stepps, 4 sticks or a single stick. I've stuck turkey decoys in there. It carries well and has a spot for a camelbak, med kit, food...the works. If I were to design the perfect pack for my style, I think it would wind up being the X2, I think. I've packed out an entire deer in one shot with the X2 as well, granted, I emptied out the packing area and carried my platform in my hands. I don't know about the pack you originally posted, but if you're thinking about the X2, you probably would be happy with it.

I have had my MR Pop Up 38 in the tree a few times this season. It's not too bad. A bit big but manageable.

I've read that it can be uncomfortable for tall/big guys. I'm 6'4" 240lbs. What do you think?
