Backpacks? Use them or not use them

1st hunt today without a backpack. The vest carried 6 pounds of sticks and platform, water, Doyle's, and the other little crap that doesn't weight much for roughly 4 miles. I was down in the thick swamp and the vest shined. Squeezing throu tight spots and ducking under low branches with nothing sticking out of your back is nice. I need some longer hikes with it to see if it gives sore shoulders but in thick cover it is very nice

I'm looking into switching to some type of vest or repurposing my turkey vest for deer hunting. Don't like weighing my saddle down with stuff and don't need a pack most hunts. Sitka has one that's on sale for $50 right now.

Thanks I just bought the vest. Your a life saver.

So I have been using a back pack the past couple of weeks and honestly not really a fan. Lately for me it been creating alot of noise especially when I am climbing a tree. Do any of you guys use backpacks?

Go to army navy store and for 30$ get a coyote breecher pack and snap a camel back to it for good pack straps. A couple of bags link in

Interesting thread. I use a Rogue (Scent Lok) backpack. The reason I started using a pack was to take anything I could off my saddle . I walk in with my kestrel and don`t have to keep hiking my saddle up. I climb with my pack on. I end up at the base of my tree wearing everything . I take my sticks and platform off my pack. It`s then less than 5 or 6 lbs and I have no problems climbing with it . I mount my pack and have everything I need right in front of me . No reaching behind to find or store anything . Its in my pack if I need it.

I have carried one for years and then last year i switched to only a fanny pack. This coming season i will be going back to a backpack since ill be switching to a saddle. If i feel a backpack is too much this season, ill go back to a fanny pack

I think I've been converted..... I'm planning on switching up my saddle hunting system to use the vest. Just a blank, load carrying, slate to move and adjust things as needed

I'm hoping to go to a vest to. I have one on the way to start playing with. I'm planning on running a sling for my sticks and vest for everything else.

GI sustainment pouches work well on the molle vest if you need a larger pouch. I have two on my dove vest, one for shells and one for doves. It is the only pouch I use on my saddle.
