I read allot of older threads on this. Looking to really take this on next season. Any first timers and what are your thoughts?

Did it for a couple years. I think it’s a good tactic. Get a propane torch to light the bee smoker off and some hardwood chips. Seemed to be the fastest for me. You can also use leaves and pine needles for a ton of smoke especially if it’s a little damp.

I think I seen you on a you tube video using smoker. Do you do anything special to gear on off season?

Pine needles, oak leaves and a few twigs. I hang all my clothes up outside. Puff smoke inside and out of them. Boots, gloves, backpack and saddle too. Store in air tight containers. After a hunt I put them back in the containers with the other smoked cloths. The smoke smell is strong and stays on them. Can be reused many times. I’ll rewash after a long hunting trip or if they get muddy or I sweated a lot. Seems to be working.

Not really lol. I keep most of my stuff in a bag or in a tote but I don't worry about it too much.

I have messed with this off and on for several years, and this year I used it as my only means of scent control. It definitely still helps several hunts after the initial smoking, but I personally noticed the best results if I re-smoke once a week, or at least every other. I took the buck in my avatar this year, straight down wind, I had smoked my clothes that same morning. It's not a "cure-all" solution, as I do still get picked off by deer occasionally, or often they will know something is up, but not be able to pin-point it. But, I am seeing substantially better results than when I was using manufactured "scent killers" in spray on bottles. You still have to hunt smart, and play the wind. But I firmly believe it can help give you that few extra seconds if they get down wind, to hopefully get a shot off. Btw, I too use a Bee smoker, as opposed to my brother, who just crouches over a small fire. I believe i can get far better coverage with the smoker.

Anyone ever tried one of those smoker tubes you put on the grill and some hickory pellets? I have a closet in my garage I keep my hunting gear, was thinking about sticking that smoker tube in there with all my gear and seeing how that works this year.

I have been using a bee smoker the past 2 seasons and been really happy with it. Like others said, deer are smart and it won't fool them all but in my opinion it helps a lot. I haven't bought commercial "scent killer" since.

If you are going to smoke clothes, the bee smoker is where it’s at. The trick to smoking clothes is to use stuff from your specific area. If a guy in Michigan uses pine needles, or a guy in east Texas uses mesquite.... the deer won’t recognize it as natural.

I typically ozone wash my clothing, and hunt the wind religiously. But, I have been known to smoke my gear as well. It is easy to overdo it, so be careful. You want to smell smoky, not like creosote. Just like a lot of things, it isn’t fool proof. It may only get you 4-5 more seconds before a deer picks you, but in certain circumstances that could mean a shot.

I've done it off and on. I think I probably over did it though. Combined with my ozonics i think it is as good as anything else, although to be fair lately I've been just using my ozone closet on my clothes.

So earlier this year on two separate occasions I was trying to squeeze in a couple extra quick bow hunts after teaching firefighter training burning houses. The stand I was using is basically in my back yard, less than 100 meters and not a lot of daylight left so I thought what the heck changed into hunting clothes without showering and got an hour evening hunt in. On both occasions I had doe’s all around my stand with no clue I was there and I couldn’t believe or explain it; it blew my mind because I knew I’d been sweating all day. Now I’m reading about this “smoking” tactic...seems like there’s really something to it...something to spend more money on‍♂️.

I do this every time. I lay all my clothes, bow, boots, jx3 hybrid saddle, packs and anything else that goes in the woods with me on my atv trailer (mesh floor), cover with a sheet of painters plastic and stick the charcoal tube under trailer. I also used to have a make shift plywood box (8'x4') with a wooden dial to hang my clothes. I would even get in it to smoke myself. You talk about cleaning out the sinuses! !
By the way, do not smoke your face mask or neck-up

Got mine for 19.00 on amazon, shipped to Home depot for free. CHEAP compared to all the gimmics out there. Using this method for 4 yrs now. IT WORKS

Ok... I definitely understand the premise here and am truly intrigued and even thinking of trying next season. My question is, will my truck then smell like a smoker’s vehicle, as that would drive me nuts?!

I will admit, not one to think many of my ideas through. My hunting truck is also my wood/plow truck. Will not matter in my case, but would understand the concern. Waiting to hear comments about unwanted smell on other things. Good question

Wood smoke smells good.
Cigarette smoke is vile.
