Titel explains it, Im reading they have ot be oval? why is that? I have several other auto locking and woudl like to not have to spend even more.
 
Maybe a pear/HMS but it could ended up loaded in a weird way if there’s some load/ unload cycles. You’d have to keep an eye on it. A biner corner trap, or some tape could help keep it in place.

I’ve heard of folks making corner traps from latex tubing or bicycle inner tube.

I don’t think a D would look right, but I also don’t think a body could cause enough force to fail a good D biner.

I love ovals for most applications. RockO from Rock Exotica are second to none and not one of the most expensive.
