I have a cheapie from Redhead and from Midwayusa. Both work well. Midwayusa one is a bit better.

If I ever needed it waterproof, my plan was to wrap it in a waterproof boot gaiter.

I've considered buying an XXL fleece sock and cutting off the toe to make my own more packable version.

After your hunting season is over in most places, local stores probably will have them on clearance.

Yeah, I mention Midwayusa a lot, and forgot to add my standard disclaimer:

Wait until the summer when they are selling that thing for 50 percent off.

I think I gave 10 bucks for mine.

But I'm still hunting until Feb 10 and its cold outside lol

I have four or five hand muffs. If you think you will be in wet weather at all, check out duck hunting section of stores and websites. I have a neoprene version that is stupid warm and has a huge pocket. It is definitely heavier than my others, though.

Whoever designs hunting apparel needs to help us saddle guys out by sewing a muff into the lower back of jackets. It's kind of wasted space anyway, but unlike stand hunters we can easily slide our hands back there comfortably.

Take an old winter jacket and cut the sleeve out and sew the cut end so the insulation doesn’t fall out. I saw that posted somewhere before. The guy was using old lightweight puffy jackets to make lightweight compressible hand muffs.

I don't have to deal with super cold temps so can't comment on real cold but the guide gear muff I have is pretty nice although not waterproof... Most times I put my hands in the EWO fleece pouches that hang off the side of my saddle and they offer some warmth... Could add a liner of some sort or hot hands pack and make them toasty... Using a poncho I can use either muff or pouches without worrying if they are waterproof or not

Great idea. I wish I had an old down jacket laying around. Maybe I'll look at Good Will.
You would even cut an equal amount from each sleeve and sew together so you have elastic cuffs both sides.
