In 100 words or less, describe your favorite memory from this season and explain why it was your favorite.

Should be a fun thread...

Shot my biggest buck to date with my bow in October. First sit on a new property, wasn't sure what to expect. Put my wife in what I thought was going to be the hot spot. Instead, 3 doe and a big 8 come right to me. I shoot the 8 right before the does smell me. Buck runs off with the arrow sticking out. I'm thinking, uh oh maybe a bad shot. He stops at 30 yds, looks around, falls dead. Wife saw it all go down and was there to help with recovery.

Best memory is my first saddle archery buck and it was on opening morning at 6:50! I drove our SxS up to the spot where I get off to walk in and I realized I forgot to put my saddle on, so I had to go all the way back down to the truck to get it. By the time I got it and drove back up to the spot it was getting light out. I hurried and got to the tree I wanted to climb and made my way up. By the time I got up it was getting daylight and I saw a buck over to my right that quickly walked away from view and I thought he was a good size. I finally pull up my bow and then realize I also forgot my knee pads. Talk about being rusty on the first day lol. Anyways, 15 mins later and a buck is cruising back towards me on my left side and he looks like a good shooter. The time from seeing him to arrow released is about 10 seconds. Turns out to be my biggest buck to date. 149 inch 12 point! What a morning lol...E8CE1E2B-4239-45DF-97DA-186ADB1D163B.jpeg

Killed my buck on the last day of my rutcation. Really nice buck for here. 3:30 in the afternoon. It was around my 10th all day sit. Total grind. It was so cold this year. Murphy's law was ruling my season. I had so many close calls.

I wasn't making errors, just a day late and a step short. I felt my game was on, just needed a break. It finally all came together when I was least expecting in the bat of an eye. Some may call it a lucky rut kill. Right place right time. But to me it doesn't get much more rewarding than the persistence kills.

Killed my first whitetail deer.... And it just so happened to be while in a saddle. Only took 5 years of failure....ready for 20/21 to start

My 9 year old killed her first deer this season best hunting moment of my life

I had a great 2019 season. I tagged out, shot my biggest buck to date, our 12 year old put his 3rd deer down. But my favorite memory was from this Monday. My dad shot a small buck with his muzzleloader and called me to come to the farm and help get it out. I took our 3 year old who is a mini me and jacked about deer and deer hunting and she sure was proud of her papaw.

My favorite hunt of the year didn’t actually end in a big buck kill, but rather an encounter with a big buck I was chasing and set eyes on multiple times. This morning hunt I had all the pieces put together and set up where I thought he was going to be. Well, it all came together and I had him within 40 yards. The shot just was not presented.

The video is mentioned in this blog post of mine. http://diybowhunting.com/hunting-the-rut/

Getting my first archery kill. It was my 3rd season bow hunting and I finally got it done. I was both lucky and unlucky with my shot. It deflected off a little twig and hit super far back. Went through the abdomen (somehow it did not hit any of the organs) glanced off the femur on the far side and sliced the main artery there. The buck made it less than 80 yards!

edit: don’t tell my fiancé I didn’t include this when I first posted but we got engaged last year. So I’m going to go with that as my favorite overall memory and what I posted above was my favorite hunting memory...

Got my biggest bow buck, out of a mantis, second saddle deer. Killed a doe last year in a modified sit drag. Also me and the Mrs. Welcomed our second kid and bought a house, been a very busy and good year. Hopefully next will be too!Screenshot_20200109-191617_Gallery.jpg

Shot a nice 8pt on public land in Missouri in the snow, on the ground, at 7 steps. A close second was shooting a nice 8pt on public land in Louisiana in the rain with ML/open sights out of the hybrid. Third was paddling 15 miles in my new canoe for the first time.
