Best Method of using Lone Wolf Climbing Sticks (4) / Predator Platform

Hey all, first post. Super stoked to get in the saddle this season, but I have one more roadblock to jump over. I have a Predator Platform on the way and was hoping to climb the tree with my Lone Wolf sticks. I've mocked up some different setups but cant seem to pinpoint one that works. As of right now this is the idea I am running with:

1) Carry all four sticks in strapped and slinged around my back
2) Set first stick on tree at ground
3) Have two sticks set up with a 550 paracord loop to attach to back of my saddle
4) Ascend up tree with other stick in hand to strap above first
5) Ascend, disconnect and strap last two when needed.
6) Set platform (Already attached to my bag)

If you guys have any suggestions as of how I can improve this method, let me know. If you have a different setup that works better, let me know!

I suggest rubber wire instead of paracord for connecting sticks to saddle while you climb. I think it’s more stable.

Cut the sticks to mini size use 3 with aider. Boom you got more compact and less work to climb. That's just me though

I’m interested in this too. I was planning on doing the same except with only 3 sticks and with WE steps at the bottom of the tree.

I am in the same boat as well. My plan is to cut down my sticks to around 20" and use a 1 step removable aider on each one.

I just got done modifying my sticks so the stand offs can turn like the LWCG sticks (saw it on here).

After trying climbing sticks and wild edge steps, I settled on 3 Hawk Heliums and cut them down. I tried 1 and 3 step aiders. I didn't like the 3 step aider. The 1 step aider was okay, but still swayed too much for my taste and was a little more effort to make sure your foot was in it correctly, both going up and coming down. What was the most solid for me was the Knaider Swaider method (see video link below). Pretty rock solid using the sticks, and I can get plenty high with just 3 sticks using this method. Keep searching and reading threads on climbing methods, watch video demonstrations, and then try out as many as you can. Until you actually try these different methods you really won't know "what's best for you."

That's the same way I did it with my Lone Wolf Stand and sticks. Should work the same for a Predator platform.

I also use 4 LW full size sticks. When I'm using my JX-3 I lash them to the frame. But with a normal saddle, I think strapped and on a sling is best. I've never gotten them to attach to a pack and stay quiet.

If you're not using aiders, I would put the first stick on the ground. Then climb to the second step of the first stick and set the second stick. I don't even tie on at this point, b/c you're not very high. Then, I climb back down and attach two sticks to the loops on my saddle and harness. I find it's pretty quick and you avoid having to carry that third stick in your hand or looped around your neck or whatever.

When I carry 4 full size LW sticks I use my packs compression straps on each side. 2 on each side balances well for me and there is no noise if you secure them right. Mine are stealth stripped as well.

Key for me was to get them centered vertically so they didn’t grab overhead branches or slap my thighs on bottom.

Where do you find the hardware for the bolts so the legs can turn flat?

Might be a dumb question but when you guys are attaching your sticks to your saddle are you connecting them directly with a short rope/strap or with a pull-up rope? I figure the former is faster but the latter is less awkward to climb and quieter.

This is how I do my LW hang-on with 4 sticks, which I will be trying in a month with my saddle/platform combo:
1. Sticks slung on back, strapped together
2. Hook first stick to tree, connect two sticks to harness using girth-hitched loop or gear tie
3. Connect lineman’s belt, put stand on back, climb first stick and attach second stick, which was in my hand
4. Climb second stick, unattach third stick from harness and strap it on
5. Repeat Step 4 with last stick
6. Attach stand to tree about 6” below my top stick-step, and to the left of my sticks
7. Attach tree tether above stand seat, clip harness in
8. Unattach lineman’s belt, and use top step to put my foot DOWN onto platform
9. Pull up my bow and pack and get ready to rock

I would sell the Lone Wolf sticks and buy the Hawk Helium sticks. I have both and prefer the Hawk sticks for the double steps. The new Hawks have a versa button so there is not much difference there.

I might be one of the only people who actually prefer the single step. I always attach my stand to the left of my sticks, so I always know my top stick will have two steps on the right. I chalk it up to needing the extra clearance for my knees and loops while ascending and arranging my setup once I’m up. The extra steps just kinda get in my way and make me ascend with less rhythm.
