Ok here are the pics of my diy climbpaws.

Do they work for you? How much do you weigh? I built a set and even with a ratchet strap they slid down and squeaked a lot. If your swinging from a high tether and no weight on your feet, they probably would work. I was 230ish when I stood full weight on mine.

I weigh 220 without my hunting clothes. They work fine for me I crank the ratchet strap down tight then step up on them and put my full weight on each step I am using 4 to 6. They slide about one inch down the tree when setting then they are fine the rest of the hunt. I have used them in temps from 80 to 0.

Tried uploading photos and it says file to large. Any help please.

I tried the oversized double step plus Top Paws and didn't like it quite as much as a small platform. It was fine for everything except shooting to the offhand side. Even though it was possible, it required a lot more precise movement and concentration during a time when you want the focus elsewhere.

I just bought some helium climbing sticks and am planning on using the double step at the top as part of my platform.

My budgets a little tight so I don't know if I can afford 3-4 ameristeps at $25 a piece or so on a ratchet strap. Would 3-4 Cranford rope steps suffice for a platform in addition to the top rung of my sticks?

I liked the pvc idea and the Jim steps look good too except I'm going to be hunting some public land and don't want to much bulk in my backpack.

You won't need more than 2 steps (3 max). I stand on my DIY top LW double step a lot and I only use 2 Ameristeps with it. I think 4 would be overkill. You'll spend 95% of your time on the double step. The other steps are only for positioning for a shot.

Something I've though about though is making some sort of flatter/larger surface to fit on top of my LW double step. Like a very small platform. I think this would make a big difference.

Not a platform like the XOP or Assault platforms, but something that was only as long as the double step, and about 6" wide. I have a couple ideas on how to make it, but I haven't had the time.

So your recommending just to "annie-up" and find two used ameristeps (non recall edition), and skip using the cranfords?

I assume eBay or achery talk will be my best bet to do that?

Does the top rung of the sticks hurt your feet?

You could put one rope step on each side and it would work ok. They have a little side to side movement but it would work. For 2, I'd just leave them on their ropes and put them up separately. Practice in the backyard and you'll figure somethings out.

G2 I noticed in that other forum where you talked about your LW mod, where you bolted a small metal seat off another deer stand to the top of your stick as a platform. Did that work out well?

Best cheap platform I had was when I first started I used big game tree steps. I thought about having a friend of mine weld me at mini one.

It worked ok, but I liked the flexibility of having an extra platform. The LW stick flexed a little too much for my liking as well. I would say if you are on the smaller side, 175lb or less, you could make it work.

I prefer the stand alone platform. You can click on the LW stick mod in my signature for info on how I did it.
