Best way to back up madrock/grigri with prusik?

Curious how others are backing up their belay device? I’ve been using an eye to eye tied in a VT above the device...I’ve experimented with attaching it to the same biner and giving it its own. Anybody have this worked out?
 
I use a figure 8, so grain of salt, but it should work the same.

I hook a separate biner to a prussic and my linemans loop on the downhill side, that way I can use my tag end hand to tender the prussic. I prefer walking down the tree and using my 8 in progress capture mode, so a backup is mandatory.
