BETTER than a Distel Hitch?

Hitches when used on a single line ( srt) need additional friction in the system or are prone to bind or lock up.

Most friction hitches will bind up, but there are a few that don’t, to the point you can descend with them in a controlled manner. The Sticht hitch is what I’m using, based on the 4-2 VT with a ring, this is the basic version of it. It hand tends with no additional hardware, but that can be improved on for less unneeded friction.

Tautline, which is a multi-wrap clove hitch

Ha! Never put those two together now that you mention it. I actually kinda liked climbing on a Tautline back in the day. It's propensity to roll out kept it running nice but the bridge always changing length was annoying

That is interesting. Never saw a ring being used before.

Anything round will work, bow shackle does good, even used a padlock for fun once. The twist keeps slack that forms when the hitch is compressed from going from the wraps to the legs/eyes, why most hitches bind up. The twist also creates a slight bend in the rope being in the center of the ring, which is also needed. The friction is adjustable by the distance between the ring and wraps, farther away less friction but might not grab each time, or closer with grabbing each time, but slides a little harder. Object is to find the sweet spot.
