Bluewater Assault line for tether?

Just dipping my toes into this saddle thing

Bought a piece of BW 11.6mm Assault line last year to make a lineman's belt for hanging lock on stands and being ignorant of ropes in general did not realize that splicing an eye into that type of rope was above my ability (if it can be done I would like to know how with the stranded core it had in it). So I tossed it in a pack and ordered some double braid (after more research) and built my lineman's belt

Wondering what those with more experience think about using this rope for a tether by tying a figure 8 in the end of it to form a loop and running back through itself?
Is it safe? I see rock climbers use it to tie into harnesses with so thinking it would be a good choice

I can buy more double braid and make a tether with a spliced loop or even buy a commercially made tether if the BW rope with figure 8 is not a good choice but I had the Assault line so I thought I would ask since I am capable of tying a knot

Feedback and opinions appreciated, I have thick skin :D

All last year my reppel rope was bluewater assault line. I have 400 stinking feet of the stuff and I don't use it anymore. But yeah, tie a figure 8 with a stopper knot on the tag end so your knot can't come loose and its fine.

I used it up till this year. Great rope, but bulky with the knots. Works well with ropeman. I tie figure 8 on a bite on both ends. I made 2 the same, used one as lineman. Works great for that due to its stiffness.

I’ve used it for years. Figure 8 with stopper knot. No issues. I still have a boatload that was never used (I bought it in bulk directly from Bluewater). Now I am using predator and oplux (more supple and reduce bulk).

I might make up some backup tethers and lineman’s ropes with it if I cannot sell it.

What would you let 75 ft go for? PM me

Sounds like I am good to go based on what I am reading

Just don't want to fall out of a tree, too old to bounce off the ground

Will probably convert to lighter stuff if I stick with the saddle thing

Go get em. Just remember a stopper knot on your figure 8. One of the two falls posted on here was due to no stopper knot on a hangman knot, or something into a delta link.

New England Ropes Heavy Duty Kernmantel splice is one option, hard to do with usually ugly results for first couple. I prefer Marlow’s Vega splice, much easier, but the cover can’t be buried on some ropes, and has to be whipped on the outside. One more is Teufelbergers Dreneline splice in their Splife Program, it results in a skinnier, weaker splice that can more easily run through certain multscenders.
Have fun!

Bluewater Assault line is what I started with when I only had a rock climbing harness. I still use it when I feel like I need extra strength.
