Bow Hunting Lessons

Don't start bowhunting unless:

A. You're bored to tears of killing deer with a rifle

Or

B. You're so sick with deer-killin' fever that you just have to hunt them that extra few weeks.

Or

C. State regulations make it almost impossible to rifle hunt on public land.

I have seen many hunters hit a brick wall and stay there for years because they started bow hunting right out of the gate, and spent 10 years killing 3 deer.

Mine kinda goes along with @TNbowhunter don't judge your hunt by what you have seen on tv because in real life most of the time those things never happen so just enjoy being in nature and always be aware of your surroundings because most sign is where deer were not where they are and if you can't tell the difference you will always be playing catch up!! And take in as much info as you can find and retain what is useful for your style of hunting and be respectful of your fellow hunters, if you are not having fun something is wrong!!!

For a NEW bow hunter... hmm. LEARN YOUR EQUIPMENT AND HOW TO MAINTAIN IT!!! You are a much more effective killing machine if you know your tools inside and out. Once you have mastered your tools of the trade, THEN, focus on the kill. Spend as much time learning as you do practicing and you will figure out the rest as you go.

1) Shoot, shoot, shoot - knowing your equipment is one the very most important things when it come to archery. Having this knowledge will give you confidence when the shot needs to count!
2) Dont worry about what other people think of your setup, or how you hunt or any of that, unless it's someone you trust. People "always" know more then you.
3) Learn more than you buy - meaning there is not once piece of gear you can buy that will kill your deer for you, but knowledge will kill that faster than you can spend money on the hottest new gear. Observe, take notes, dont be afraid of making mistakes, dont worry about screwing up hunts, just go experience and learn from the hunts the you do screw up, learn not to make the same mistakes twice!

Have fun above all else. The outdoors is an awesome place, never forget that. You'll see things that most people never will.

Spend more time than you think you need to scouting. It never hurts, you'll cover more ground and learn a ton. Keep in mind, you can scout with a bow in hand.

Don't get caught up in bucks and antler sizes. Kill deer. Feed your family and friends. Fill your freezer.

What is the one thing that you would pass on to a new hunter if you could? (Saw thread on another site and stole idea)

You can't buy success, these deer don't care that you paid 1G for a sight and 2G for a bow, they just "are"

You need to learn woodsmanship first. Learn to move through the woods quietly. I can't believe how many people I've heard/seen that sound like an elephant coming through the woods.
