Bow hunting sika deer

We are hunting sika deer in late October this year. My wife and I were invited and are taking the opportunity to shoot one of these cool creatures. So my question:

My wife is now shooting 36lbs with her new bow (diamond sb1). She has been bumping it up 2 lbs per week with hopes of using it instead of a crossbow on our hunt. The Maryland regulations state that the draw weight should be 30lbs or more which I thought was low.

What pound draw weight would you feel comfortable with taking a sika deer?

Thanks

It would be like shooting a Large Golden Retriever. It’s going to depend on the distance, through marsh grass, etc. I would be comfortable shooting 36 lbs as long as it’s a clear shot within 30 yards.

Draw weight has less to do with it than arrow weight and the particular broadhead shes using. I would say dont even mess with anything mechanical at that poundage. A fixed blade, Preferably with two main blades and a couple bleeder blades and she shouldn't have an issue if she does her part. A heavier arrow would help everything. Dont worry about speed. It's over rated.
