I’ve been shooting a compound for over 50 years. It was time I graduate to a traditional bow. I purchase a production model long bow to start with, a Bear Montana. In preparation I watched a few Clay Hayes and NUSensei YouTube videos before heading out to the range. Proud of my new hobby and gear I invited my wife to tag along to see a professional at work. Never hitting my forearm with a compound bow I felt silly strapping on an arm guard, but I did. I dawn a shooting glove ready to fire. Now getting to the definition of Bow Nose. I pulled back the bow and released the string. The last evidence of my $12 arrow it was rocketing through the trees. My wife was laughing out of control saying what happened to your nose. All skin on the right side of my nose was surgically remove with the bow string. I said forget the nose look at my arm. The string went behind my arm guard and created a hematoma the size of a baseball on my forearm. Nevertheless, I am not discouraged. I can only improve from here on.

I would watch Clay Hayes series on form. You seem to have a few form issues but, I am glad to hear you are not discouraged! And I hope your wife is not like mine because she would never let me live that down. :)

Ehhh crap happens! I shot a wall at an archery shop I worked at. Was checking arrow length with a arrow measure. Leaned forward to read and it slipped outta my hands. Oops

I would add Tom Clum, Rod Jenkins or Jimmy Blackmon's stuff on you tube as well. Check to make sure the brace height on the bow is right too. I got a new bow this spring and made a couple of minor form adjustments and all of a sudden I started getting some minor nose slap. The form adjustments got me in much better body alignment but I didnt adjust my head position and that was the issue. Frog hair adjustment to head position and no more slap.

Thanks for the advice. I will check out some more videos. I would like to hunt triditional this year, but do not think I have time to get confident before opening season.

My buddy was showing me his new thumb release last night that was "really awesome...."
