Bucks only moving after shooting hours?

Think of it like this: You are at a crowded bar. You meet a pretty young lady. She seems relatively into you, she's giving you vibes. You buy her some drinks, dance a little, you're having an awesome time. The bar is full of other dudes. Those dudes don't have young ladies. So, you're not going to stay out on the middle of the dancefloor while everyone horns in on your gal, you're going to suggest to get out of there to somewhere you can "talk". It sounds like you're hunting the dancefloor. Put yourselves in the deer's shoes and then layer on the Dennis Reynolds factor and think of where you'd take a doe that not only you'd have her to yourself, but that she can't escape. It doesn't have to be bedding, it could be a mess of blowdowns, or a point surrounded by water or some other terrain barrier, like a road. If all else fails just walk around looking for does, eventually they would come into heat and have those bucks chasing them.

This time of year in my area I see bucks out cruising late morning thru the afternoon. It seems like in the middle of the day they are moving along scrape and rub lines checking for other deer activity. I killed my biggest buck to date at 2:30 in the afternoon on a scrape line. Maybe move your camera to a rub line or trail. It’s worth considering.

I am becoming a fan of heavily hiked trails this year. I have a new spot that’s a mile and a half from the parking lot. most hunters aren’t willing to go that far. I hunt about 80 yards from the trail and there are a lot of good bucks out there. If I was a doe Hunter, I would be able to slaughter them. They are so used to people that they walk right up to me when I’m hiking to my spot. But I pass, so they can make me more bucks.next year I’m definitely scouting more hiking areas!

I made the mistake last year of thinking bucks wouldn't cruise on open logging trails in a new piece I was at. Nope. While I was where I thought bucks should be, I blew them out walking down that old road that cut tons of doe trails out of bedding. It had some cover around the logging road...just enough for them to use it during daylight.

Congrats on that nice buck. Thanks for the advice, too!

The bucks in my area (private) have been nocturnal all season due to hunters on adjacent properties setting up directly in the bedding areas and cutting off any daylight movement of deer. When you have a minimum of five guys, sometimes seven on three sides setting up in, or near the bedding areas/swamps that pressure effects everyone around them. I used to be able to set my watch to the deer movement this time of year but they’ve decided not to move until the middle of night and it’s been that way since October 1st. I won’t see anything until mid to late December once the neighbors go back down state.
Yep
