Bullpup rifle - hidden goldmine?

Hatched me a thought en route to work this am - the bullpup design has been proven by the hickory creek mini to be a great advantage for mobile hunting, specially from the saddle. Has anyone used a bullpup rifle yet? I bet that would be super sweet.

A bullpup shotgun would be awesome for turkey hunting too - easy to swing, and the weight being in the back would make it easier to offhand in awkward positions

Doing more research now.

Bullpup is great as a concept, but as a southpaw, the shell ejecting straight into my neck is terrible.

If you can get a properly fitted bullpup rifle, you have a long barrel with a short OAL, high precision with great maneuverability. Its not needed, but it is great with the correct setup.

Alternatively, my tikka t3 hunter in .308 glass bedded, custom hand loads, with a luepold scope and bipod will work fine for 500yrds. But I don't need to hike that far with it, if you are hiking miles with a rifle, go bullpup. Also, I hate being left handed.

I really like my .444 handi rifle in a saddle. Reflex sight, I’m going to shorten the barrel to 18” and swap the fore end screw for a thumb knob - gun breaks down in three pieces and fits in a backpack.

could probably do a small scope same way and be able to shoot past 75-100 yards.

That's similar to what I use, CVA 35 Rem with the barrel cut to 18". I've had Super 16 barrels on Contenders but prefer 18's for a little better balance. If a carbine gets too light in the muzzle it feels weird.

What about a carbine length AR rifle? Lots of calibers to choose from besides 5.56. Endlessly customizable. Also short length.
Definitely looked into it - biggest advantage i see to the bullpup is the extra barrel length without sacrificing overall length

This one the coolest so far I've found, the hunter edition is 30.5" overall with a 20.5" barrel.

The survival edition is only 26.5" long with a 16.5" barrel

They only come in 223 and are pricey, but it's fun to think about

Not a bullpup, but packs up nice and you can slap it together in the tree.

I don’t have experience with the rdb. Keltec has some revolutionary ideas. Some work better than others.

There are plenty of bull pup sticks for at platforms but the triggers aren’t usually good and they are heavy.

If you want a more "hunting" caliber gun, KelTec has the RFB in 308.

I use a Remington Model 7 .260 when I rifle hunt from my saddle. It’s small and light enough to grab it with one hand comfortably and maneuver around the tree with. And easy free hand shots. Low recoil, but packs a wallop in 140gr. They don’t run often and not far when they do.
