Went out mid west to bow hunt for a week . Seen a lot of deer, many in range but none I was willing to shoot . Things happen for a reason I guess or just had a senior moment . We have three people in our hunting party , and we are hunting from a boat all week . On the third day we get to the ramp early and head off to a cove about a half a mile away. We unload our gear and make a plan . I will go up the creek in the back of the cove. One will climb the big hill on the left and the other will climb the other big hill to right .
After walking maybe 600 yards I find a good tree to climb. I place my one stick on the tree and get ready to climb. I look up the hill and see a light, it is my hunting buddy on top of the hill. I pack my stuff back up and move on up the side hill to give him more space. I walk for another 200 yards or so . Cool deal ,I find another good tree to climb. I look around with my green headlamp ,wow big rubs and a scrape . This is the spot, so I place my one stick on the tree. Get the rope out of the pack. Place the rope around the tree. Tie the end on the rope to pack. Take the pull up rope for the bow . Look around ,oh crap , no bow ! At this point I think it may be a good thing if I am bowhunting deer to have a bow .
So here I go ,trying to find my bow where I left it at the first tree. After about 45 min or so I find the first tree and my bow . Double crap ,now I have to find the second tree with my pack and climbing gear. Getting good daylight by now about 30 min I find my setup . After all that, I did see a 4 point .
Note to self , in the woods never be in a rush . Drop pins on tree locations .
On day 4 ,Time changed so we made it to the ramp super early . Well nobody here except One mini van with a old guy getting dressed inside . This ramp has a sign in board so we go over and sign in . The guy is from Michigan and his name is John Eberhart. Come to find out later the Tethrd gang is staying 4 cabins down from us.
