Can you build a 1.3 pound stick

1/2” hole on 1” centers you won’t even notice them minus the weight difference

I'm going to try this when I get a chance and I'll get the weight of my finished stick on a digital scale.

For a diy stick, are lone wolf standoffs the best we can purchase or is there a better diy option?

I would say yes. As far as weight and availability. I believe lone wolfs and XOP are the only ones you can purchase new

Thanks man. From this thread the consensus has been lone wolf is better than XOP right? And there really are no good DIY options?

I’ve been working on them. Not as much as I would like to be. I haven’t seen any feasible DIY yet.
The lone wolfs are lighter I know Erniepower and others are huge fans of the XOP on the platforms.

Lone wolfs are much lighter.

They're using the 6 point brackets on platforms. They're different than the stick stand off.

Drill offset holes on front and back? Side to side? All four sides?

Yep drill all the way through both sides then turn it and drill all the way through both sides. If you go to Lowes they are drilled straight on all 4 sides. I have see it both ways. I would leave a couple of inches around the steps.

That is what I did

It tends to bend at the versa button and the top step so I do not drill around those areas

Ontario how much weight is taken off with the 1/2" holes at 1" centers on the 1/16". I have all my pieces cut and I'm still at 1.8 with cam and amsteel ..arrg

I got to 1.55 pounds with it drilled out with 5/8 holes. I have lone wolf stand offs and ImThere steps and mini cam cleat and 5 mm amsteel.
That makes it light. Is that safe???

To answer your question your post will probably drop about 56 g or almost .2 pounds with 1/2 holes. That is a guess from memory. I think I posted the exact answer somewhere.

The mini cam cleat is probably too light... I should use a medium. The light rope is still strong enough.
The stand off's are light.

Thanks- I will let you guys know my results...yes always worried about safety I am 6'-2" 255#...yikes I know

5 foot 10 and 200 pounds... I think my sticks are border line for me. Especially the cam cleat. I think the tube will flex and could bend but likely with warning but I think it is fine for me . However I have not bent a stick and after it flexes it returns to it's normal conditon after testing.
  1. I like the Im There steps because the bolt is strong enough and the machining will keep it in place.
  2. The rhonstan mini carbon cam cleat is questionable for anyone over 165 pounds.
  3. The rope on the cleat is fine too in my opinion.
  4. The tube on the stick does flex when it is 1/16 wall..
  5. I am still experimenting and have not decided what is the best, lightest, and safest way to go.
  6. I have broke the light cam cleats while severely testing the sticks.
  7. I have sheared and bent aluminium bolts and will not use them. I have not damaged a 1/16 wall tube yet to the point of failure.
  8. I am sure you could pull a nut or bolt through that aluminium if you stressed it enough. This is why I like 2 locking flange nuts inside the tube on the bolt holding the step and standoff.
  9. I want to be confident with these sticks at 20 feet up.
  10. A shorter stick with an aider will flex but there will be less leverage and it will be less likely to bend IMO farmer opinion. I am not an engineer.
  11. I may go with short packable sticks and a long aider.
  12. The lone wolf stand off is lighter but a wider stand off will put less stress on the tube and bolt IMO> A muddy stand off is much heavier but wider. I expect the XOP stand off would be safer too because I expect it has a wider point of contact with the stick.
Yeah it all sounds unsafe but I am just trying to give an honest opinion. I know I will use a light stick this fall. How light or short or what hardware... I have not decided. I have spent a fair bit of time and resources trying to decide. What to do.

The jumping up and down and twisting I am doing to the stick will not likely happen in normal use. I would be checking my sticks regularly when I use them this fall and will not abuse them like I presently like to do.
