Recommendations for hitch cord and size? I was using 6mm sewn eye with a distel hitch and it locked up … Switched to JRB Ascender Hitch on 8mm resctech also locked up .. I am almost positive I tied the knot correct. Should the rope be milked and climbed on more for smoother operation? After getting down I noticed the ropes outer sheathing was bunching up.

I use resctech 8mm with 6mm trc I only use the jrb ascender....never have had a bind up so I will say check your method and try to not make it too tight when you dress it.

Also check to make sure the end was sealed well !

That might be the trick then with the JRB .. I find my self wanting to dress and set like a Blake’s hitch .. assuming that’s not the best for that knot?.. end was factory sealed from eastern woods outdoors .. I had 40’ out of 80’strung down from a lift today and decided to try a repel and it locked up .. once down I pulled the slack through a Blake’s hitch and ended up with about 5” of sheathing loose so I taped off and cut

I like to tie it just snug, then hang on it and after that dress it a little. Its meant to get tight by expanding. Also you'll know its not right if it doesn't self tend easily!

The cover bunching of the rope might have been part of the problem. The JBR can be tied too tight, it will also start to tighten up with repeated loading and unloading cycles.

8mm restech with the 9mm canyon shouldn’t be the issue no? Is a hair under 75% ..

I run 5.5mm Beal Cordelette, 6mm PMC, and 6mm Sterling accessory cord. I don't have as much time climbing on these as I'd like but thus far have no complaints. The PMC is 'bumpy' and stiff. The Beal is easy to work with, very pliable. The Sterling works fine but hasn't left me any particular impressions. I'm tying JRB and Michoacans on all and don't have any preferences. All hold and break well enough for me.

I have 40ft of Canyon C-IV that I bought from DanO a couple years ago. I am looking at my order history and I also bought a 4ft piece of Sterling 6mm TRC and prusik tender. I put small scaffold knots on each end of the TRC line and put the TRC line into a 4 wrap distel hitch configuration. I weigh 270lbs without gear on and it holds me fine and is easy enough to break free. When I climb the tree, I use the rappel rope and a linesman belt. I connect the TRC distel hitch to one of my linemans loops and I attach a grigri to the rappel rope and my bridge. I find it easier to climb and adjust using the grigri. Once I am at hunting height I move the distel hitch from the linemans loop, to my bridge, then disconnect the grigri (all while still using a linemans rope). Once I like my tether length and have confirmed it will bite and not slip, then I remove the linemans rope.
