Anyone using a Bachmann's know rather than a Prussic? I have these questions:

1) Since the carabiner used for a Bachmann's seems to be just a frame over-which to form the and keep the knot, is it really necessary to have a full-on, steel, rescue/belay version?

2) Are there smaller carabiners that would be more suited for a Bachmanns, rather than the "normal" full-sized ones

Rest assured, I will buy a "real" Fusion, Pretzel, Black Diamond, etc. not an ornamental or one.

What's your motivation for running bachmann over other knots? Do you have a biner to try? I played with one and found it to be a knot i didn't care for all that much. Maybe with a different cord I'd have felt differently, but it didn't catch as consistently or release as smoothly as e.g. a distel.

Well, I'm still in the experimental stage, and thought I'd give it a whack. Motivation was:
1) It seems like it tends the knot well
2) appears "small-ish"
3) cost a lot less than a rope grab (ropeman, kong duck, etd.)
4) easy enough to experiment on with a cheapie 'biner firs before I lay out the $

Seemed like a good thing to try. I realize that I'll have to get a round cross-section 'biner. I'll probably give Distel a try sooner or later. Still playing around at ground level, lol!

Just a heads-up for anyone that might someday be searching on the keywords in this thread's title: I bought a fusion round cross section carabiner went to the woods, and gave the bachman's a try with 5mm and also 8mm prussic cords (on 11mm lineman's cord). In then end, though I liked the way the carbiner tends the knot, I decided against using a bachmann's because now 2 carabiners are used, rather than just one. Experimenting with Klemheist lately and like it so far; only 1 carabiner required.
