What carabiners is everyone using for a rappelling tether and what carabiners are you using in conjunction with your mad rock safeguard ?? I’m looking to tether my self with a quick link or carabiner and then use the max rock to rappel down i want carabiners that are going to hold up and are super durable want to stay as safe as I can .

I kind of gave up on rappelling for hunting but I did keep my biners I got for it. They’re really nice and strong and feel safer with them than others I’ve used before.

This is the main one I use. Auto locks shut which I like:

DMM Ultra D Keylock LS Carabiner, Silver with Green Gate https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007GX0VOY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_ge1PFbV9JMR76

This is kind of the backup to the DMM:

PETZL - William, Locking Carabiner for Belaying https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019QNNJX6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_-b1PFb5HN8ES5

does the safeguard need an oval carabiner too like the kong duck? I just got mine and I actually had a situation where my carabiner was stuck in the safeguard opening from the weight as it doesn't slide all the way around the carabiner due to the shape.

I've never had an issue with any of my specific carabiners, oval or non-oval! I'm currently using an oval WEI Twist-Lock carabiner, though.

I just remembered I actually took a picture. Not even sure how it happened but the carabiner was wedged in there very tight where I couldn't even get it loose pulling on it. Had to actually attach to my bridge and weight it to get it apart.

I can see how it happened, why I don't know... I've never had any of mine lock up like that. I usually run them with the gate opening towards me, but I don't see that making a big difference. I SRT climb frequently with transitions to a short tether as well.

I use Fusion essence carabiners but the Rock Exotica stuff has had my attention lately. Only problem with the Rock Exotica stuff is some carabiners have the Orca gate (open regular close auto), can be dangerous if your not use to it.

I dont get the Orca, I get just the triple action auto lock. The Orca action is pretty slick.

It looks like that particular carabiner has a sharp angle right under the locking portion. Look for carsbiners with smooth radius. I have never had any of my carabiners get stuck in the Safeguard.

Wow what is going on there? Are they different back up tie in points?
I attach a sling from my bridge to my ascender. I climb SRT with an upper ascender and a lower rappel device. The sling is just a lightweight backup. If my Safegaurd were to slip or break, I would be left hanging from my upper ascender and not laying on the ground. Slings are lightweight.
