Carrying a knife

What kind of creative solutions have ya’ll come up with for carrying your knife while wearing a saddle? I wear a belt knife most of the time in everyday life, so I’m used to having it at my side all the time. I’ve yet to find a way to carry while in the saddle that I’m content with. The current solution is to keep it in my pocket or pack, but I’d like to find a way to have it within reach.

I carry a knife every single day. Its strange because I basically never carry one in the saddle. It stays in my pack or I keep a small lightweight knife in my pocket

i purposefully carry two folding knives in my cargo pocket

one is my main hunting knife, a spyderco stretch, and the other is a smaller back up, a spyderco delica

i want them on me in case something happens and i am trapped by a rope or some such and have to cut myself out of trouble.....similar in idea to a dive knife maybe

i might go to a fixed blade in my pack and folder in my pocket, but i've processed all my deer for years with a good folder

Knifes live in all my packs and one in each vehicle.
When sea duck hunting, one around my neck within reach. Can only hold my breath so long.
If nervous about cutting yourself out a small neck carry works. Keep it under clothes you are wearing.
Don't cut the branch you're standing on!

Look up what’s called a dangler. It’s a common way to carry what’s called a bushcraft knife. If your regular knife has a belt clip you could simply attach it to a dangler attached to the saddle molle loops.

I carry my EDC folder in my pants pocket - including while hunting. It’s all I need for any incidental cutting needs and for field dressing, too. If I did need to access it, it would take standing up and shifting to get to it. But I can’t recall ever needing it while in the saddle. If you want easy access in the saddle, I’d put a folder in a cargo pants pocket or wear a neck knife as others have suggested.

You fellas carrying a neck knife, any worry about having a slip and it catching a limb and hanging yourself? Anyone use a breakaway if you are using one? I always have my knife on me, benchmade bugout is my everyday carry and I have a few I rotate thru for in my pack when hunting. My uncle wears his neck knife everywhere but in aviation/construction where I spent most of my life that’s a death sentence leaning over an engine or running belt without a breakaway.

I carry a SOG micron in my pocket and a benchmade grizzly ridge in my kill kit

Get a leg mounted sheath for it so it goes on your calve muscle area like a dive knife. I keep mine in my pack also, but if you have to have it to fight the Predator like Billy did, then I’d go with a leg mounted sheath. Still on your body but it won’t interfere with your saddle setup at all.

I operate the same way I do in my every day life. If I’m around rotating equipment, I don’t wear a neck knife.

as far as hanging your self through gravity, your shirt will do the same thing.

I carry a folding clip knife every. single. day. I also carry it with me while hunting. Clips to my right side hip pocket.

I carry this weapon of mass destruction in my pocket every day. :tearsofjoy: In fact I feel almost naked without it. In my hunting pack I carry a Kershaw folder as part of my kill kit but its accessible in the vest pocket if I should need it in the tree in case of emergency.

Neck knife, folder in pocket, 4 inch sheath knife on pack belt, and gut hook knife in the kill pocket. I worry more about getting tangled up in the rope than I do about hanging myself with the neck knife. I should always be able to reach one of my knives in most situations.

Don't carry a knife on me when working with ropes. Only knife stays sheathed in my pack.
As a former arborist I’ve grown accustomed to sharps in the tree. We used hand pruners, various saws and chainsaws; granted we were always double tied in and use steel core lineman’s belt. As a result, when saddle hunting I almost always stay double tied. I’m far more likely to make a mistake with a razor sharp broadhead than a knife. I’m habituated to keeping my knife in reach.
