Some time in early 2020 I read an article from my Google feed about a guy who climbs using LW sticks cut down to steps. The step was made by cutting the stick tube down about 6" below the v-bracket. The tube was angled down against the tree. The 1" or so of tube above the v-bracket served as the step and a place to hang the aider. The guy used 3 of these steps with a 3 or 4 step aider.

I cannot remember all the details but wonder if someone here can find that article. It was called "ultimate climbing method" or something like that.
 

Probably this is what you are referring to. There is a bunch of talk about safety concerns associated with this method.
