Thought I might SRT today. I don't normally SRT to hunt, but I'm pretty hobbled from a knee injury and trying to find my best option to get in a tree because I absolutely despise attempting to bowhunt from the ground. Getting my climber back from a buddy I lent it to this weekend, but until then, this seemed my best option.

Just prepping the gear to hunt today, grabbed my rope and saw this. It hangs from a hook on my basement wall and has since I last trimmed trees last winter. 99.7% sure a mouse had to have done this. Chewed most of the way through the sheath. Core is untouched. Bass tards. Cut about 50' off a 150' rope. This is war.

But seriously, there are external factors beyond our control that can put our gear at risk. Keep an eye on things and don't trust what you haven't inspected.

Stop giving those momma mice a pass when you’re waiting for antlers

My barn and garage were, still are home to the occasional mouse.
I found that storage needed to be in a closed container or hanging from the rafters, my arborist ropes specifically.
I eventually put the ropes in rope bags hung from the rafters for additional safety, and have not had any problems.
A friend of mine is a "pest control specialist" and keeps me in traps and poison, that keeps the population to a minimum.

Ugh! That's why I try to keep everything in sealed tubs during the offseason, saddles, packs, clothes, ropes, you name it. Those little suckers find this stuff to make nests with.

Oh no! Don't even get me started on them little rodent bass tards. I posted last year how they got into my milkweed and lugged it all off for nesting material. I feel your pain brother.
I had the same thing happen, they love the seeds. They chewed through the zippered mesh dispenser bag I had. In a way it was good as I have a better system now and I keep the spares in a plastic shoe box. I do not keep any in my backpack as I am sure the bass tards would chew through it.

I get them normally when it gets cooler out (shed and garage mostly)...just how they get in my attic, I'll never know.
I tried the "natural" stuff in a bag...NOPE

I took two 1 gallon cans of Cyanne pepper powder into the attic and tossed handfuls EVERYWHERE !!! since they go by scent in total darkness...seemed to help a lot.

Reminds me, I need to do shed and garage soon.

I have had good luck with bounce dryer sheets for my snowmobiles.
