This is a great site for one that is getting into saddle hunting. It’s hitting on all the issues that comes up with newbies - like myself.. I completely understand the trust your equipment statement and truly feel that comes with time. I’ve been primarily using climbers with a hag-on sprinkled in for the past 25 years and I check my stands each year. I do feel different or maybe more confident / trusting between the first climb of the year and last. That said I read advice in some threads to check your saddle equipment after each hunt. Besides the obvious rope fraying and saddle connection points is there anything else should we examine?

I would add tether eye, eye knot or splice, and stopper knot. All rope / webbing knots dressed and correctly tied. Climbing Harness - main belt strap loop correctly fastened, and carabiner use is oriented so not to crossload, sideload or 3 point load.

Essentially - check every area weight is transferred.

Thanks -- won't be in a saddle for another 6-8 weeks (hopefully) and want to get in a good habits throughout the cycle of the saddle hunt, to include checking the gear prior to next climb.
