Chest packs

The other piece I'll throw out there for consideration is to wear your chest rig on your actual chest and not on your belly. This is a bit different than other applications where you would employ a chest rig, but because we have components in our setups located below the chest rig that we need to access/interact with (bridge, rappel systems, etc.), you'll want your chest rig in the upper lung area.

Makes a big difference in employing it effectively and being frustrated with it.
Good points. I ordered a cheapo of amazon just fir testing.
ive been eying up this one ifi think i will like it.
Alaska Classic HBS with MAX Pocket Bino Pack | Camo Binocular Harness Vest | Hunting Binoculars and Rangefinder Pouch (Realtree Excape) https://a.co/d/dG2DPIB

I’ve used the Kuiu pro for 3 seasons now and don’t go in the woods without it wether it’s 3D, scouting, or hunting. I have my binos in it, rangefinder pouch on the side, slip my phone in behind the binos, primary and backup releases go in the small side pockets. I keep my beanie and neck gaitor tucked in the lid.

I shoot 3D wearing it. Climb with it. Shoot from the saddle with it. Doesnt interfere while climbing (I mostly one stick climb but hunt preset sticks from time to time). Doesn’t interfere with my bow string or my bridge. I have it adjusted as high up on my chest as it will go which helps.

At first I thought it would be a pain so I’d hang it when I got set but now I prefer to have my binos and rangefinder on my chest for easy access.

can you spin it around if so?

I don’t think this would be feasible at least with the Kuiu.

I hunted with an Alaskan guide creation and now use the sitka bino harness. Spinning it around is a no. It does not get in the way when I climb. Can shoot out of it easily. I like having binos and particularly rangefinder close at the ready. My only issue us with layering once in the tree. If I need to add or remove layers while in the tree the bino harness comes off and hangs in front of me. For me it's a must to have on while tracking. Use the binos regularly to scan ahead in the brush. Have recovered a few deer by letting my eyes do the walking.

This thread is pretty bino harness heavy (obviously by the title) but goes into some other tangents/brand recs as well

I’ve been using a Marsupial Gear chest rig for two seasons now. I use a larger pack rabbit chest rig for turkeys and no more turkey vest. The chest rig is awesome and find myself using it all the time. I do find it gets a little in my way when one sticking but it’s not undoable. I came up with a system when I mobile hunt with one stick where I take my backpack for all mobile hunts now. I throw my saddle in the pack to my tree and obviously wear the chest rig to my hunting spot. Once getting ready to ascend, I take the chest rig off, place it in the pack where my saddle was and go up that way. Once at hunting height, I either put it back on or leave it at the top of my pack depending on my bridge position and angle to the tree and tree lean. I leave it right on when climbing with multiple sticks. I do position it higher on my chest and tighter when bowhunting with it in either scenario however.

To add to my last post, you would be able to spin It around if you needed to by unbuckling the two bottom clips but it would just put it out of the way, it wouldn’t be very functional that way though.

I have posted this as a suggestion several times in other threads. It is perfect. Good quality from Poland. Good price compared to Hill People Gear or FHF. It does not get in the way of climbing (I’m a four stick, LB and tether traditional style climber who also wears pack up as I climb) and it does not interfere with shooting or climbing at all.
It holds everything you could need and also is adjustable for how far it opens so nothing will fall out.

I’ve tried them a few times and just can’t get comfortable with them. I don’t even take binos in the woods, so to have the extra bulk just didn’t make sense.

The areas I hunt, you can’t see much beyond 75 yards, so binos don’t have much benefit for me anyway. There is occasionally a place with longer views, but still don’t see the benefit of using binos.

For scouting, I will take them. They allow me the ability look around more than walk around in some places. But where I hunt, I have a good idea of where I’m looking anyway.

So …. For me, chest packs have been more cumbersome than beneficial. If I were to try it again, I’d go with a Howe small one …. for carrying more snacks.

Mike
