I've acquired a China made LW Assassin. I knew when I bought it that it was a dud. The casting is very rough. Through research I learned it was made in China.
From an engineering aspect, it has a lot surface defects and most likely has more point defects internally than US made LW's. These defects can ultimately lead to fractures. I don't want it to fail while I'm 20ft up. I know I'm opening a can of worms here, but should I continue to use it? Has anyone had any experience with China made LW's?

If it doesn't look safe, I certainly wouldn't use it.

However, I'm surprised, because I sold LW stands for a while and some were from the short time they switched to China.
The only differences were they were shinier and had sharper edges on the casting. I never saw anything about the casting itself that seemed unsafe.

The new XOP stands are leftover china made lw platforms as far as I can tell. My friend bought one for $140 and it's shiny and has sharper edges than my USA LW, just like the old china LW's. No big deal. My friend that bought it works with metal for a living and he saw no issues with the stand. He loves it, a little paint and it's no longer shiny.

Again though, if you see defects, maybe it's not safe.

If its iffy, I wouldn't use it. Its just not worth it.
