Climber Platform as climber and platform

I leave the LWHC on my feet, I just cock it so it clears and slide down. Awesomeness!

How much rope do you typically carry when you are planning to rappel down? I have never rappelled but hunt typically at 30ish feet according to my range finder.

Also what all is need to rappel besides the longer rope?

What type of belay (Spelling) device are you using?

When at hunting height are you just staying tied in to your belay device rather than a ropeman or prussik for the entire hunt?

I just started this last week. I have 40 ft of 9mm Sterling. I use a Kong Chuy for a belay with an auto block. I have a Kong Duck for climbing. I got everything from Eastern Woods Outdoors. I also have a Mad Rock Safeguard Belay on order. I plan on using it for climbing and rappelling. My plan is when I get to height I will switch over to my tether.

So climbing with short tether and kong duck and then switching over to the long rope for the hunt and descent?

What I want to do is climb with the long rope, hang from the tether and rappel with the long. Rather than leave it hanging but I don’t know I may hang from the long rope. Like I said this is new to me. Still trying to figure it out. We’ll see what I like best.

After running into an issue where a stick slid down the tree on me, I’ve switched entirely to using a 30’ “tether”.

When I tried using my self climber base I used the 30’ tether and once I was at hunting height I lowered myself to kneeling position and put a ratchet strap on the platform.

At the end of the night I made sure my 30’ paracord line was attached to my tether at the top, removed the ratchet strap, then switched my gear to a figure 8 and put my feet in the platform stirrups.

I disengaged the platform from the tree and then in a controlled fashion rappelled down all the way to the ground in one motion without re-engaging the platform to the tree.

It was SWEET!
