Climbing gaffs

I have a pair of baseline aluminum with pole gaffs and tee pads ,but with the strap and buckle ,also a pair of Buckingham with big buck pads and treegaffs ,way to heavy, how has everyone put quick disconnect buckles on and which ones havnt broke

They do have a split ring. I went all out and purchased the carbon fiber Gecko’s. The reason for my purchase is, this is my go to way of climbing, once you get the hang of it, it’s hard to beat! For me, 3 1/2lbs can get me as high as I want to go. Of course my preferred method coming down is repelling…. Practice, practice, practice, but I’m telling you, once you get the hang of it, you’ll love it! I’ve turned a few close friends to using the spikes.

Without knowing which climbers you have…….
What size is the buckle on yours currently? I would think any of the plastic side release buckles would work. The top strap around your calf doesn’t have to be very tight, just tight enough to keep your leg from slipping sideways. The strap on the foot usually has some type of hole and buckle attachment like an old belt does. I would keep that because it’s quick to use anyway and it stays tight once you strap it down.

I have the baseline aluminum I put new straps and buckles on as the old leather straps were getting pretty stiff

I thought about getting quick detach buckles but I like the factory straps.
They are strong!

My favorite pair (I have 3 sets) has the velcro calf strap.
They are pretty old and the velcro isn't really that loud anymore...
