Climbing stick question, seeking advice?

Let me know if you want them.

I’ve had a few guys ask about these steps I had made.
I will put it out there: it cost me $75 to make a set of 6 steps. I’m not sure if anyone can beat price. I can sell them for that + shipping. I’m not making a dime but giving the guy some work. Pm me

Will these fit on a lonewolf stick? And is the offer open to all? Put on a lonewolf stick they would be lighter than what I have I think.

Yes, it’s an open offer. To my knowledge all sticks are the same size tube so they will fit.

When would you like to know. I never use my lonewolf sticks but they would become usable again. I would shorten the lone wolfs and put them on. I would use them for presets in certain locations. or maybe more often. What do the steps weigh?

Just let me know I have to order the aluminum and schedule the time with the Machinist.

I am not a machinist so did you drill out your stick to make it lighter I remember reading that you might do that on the original thread. Also does the lone wolf stick have the same strength and thickness that you used.
Maybe a dumb question - if you drilled out your post to make it lighter what side of the post did you drill. How far apart were the holes and what diameter.
Do your custom cam cleats stack nice. I know the ones I bought do not. I have tried 5mm cord on it on it works fine. The cord is supposed to be 5000 lb breaking strength and is very abrasion resistant but with time it is supposed to lose half it's strength with use... no big deal I think.

Lots of questions. Maybe some of them simple minded.

I have not drilled them (yet) lol. My custom cleats are not done yet. I haven’t been able to update that thread. Lol lots of waiting right now. thanks for asking
As far as the questions about the lone wolfs what is the wall thickness of the tube? I believe that are thicker walled then the ones I’m building.

What type and wall of aluminum did you use.? I could just use my lone wolf sticks and drill them out a bit. What side would you drill? I assume not the side that faces you or the tree. . I don't use my lone wolf at all because I prefer double steps. This would make them useful to me again.

I used 1/16 wall 6061 T6. As far as the holes I haven’t looked in to it enough to make a qualified suggestion. I’m waiting to hear back from another member on how he did his. I was thinking center line holes maybe start one side 1/2” for the end 3/8 holes every inch start the other side 1” up 3/8 holes every 1” on the sides not the tree side or the face side.

I will think about those steps and price some posts. 7075 might give me more confidence on drilling them out.
I have all the hardware on some lone wolf or cheaper muddy sticks

Man I would love to have just one of those...... It would be nice to have on just the top stick, in conjunction with a ring of ameristeps. Would make a mighty nice platform.... so in all seriousness if anybody gets some can you add one to the order (I’ll over pay for it)

If I could not get hawk helium's I would go with a system like Bowhunter15 came up with for a dual/fixed step stick. I would then have steps made for me and build my own. I personally would never go back to a single step stick like Lonewolf sticks.

Just food for thought. I had 3 sticks out last night looking them over; an unmodified lone wolf, a modified hawk helium and a muddy pro. The hawk is the lightest, but if I cut down a lone wolf it would be, but wouldn't have a top double step. As is, the muddy pro's are the heaviest, but 3 of them probably pack up tighter than the other ones. Having them all side by side actually made me realize that the heliums don't have the most compact profile.

Im suprised that the muddy sticks pack tighter since the heliums are flatter profile than the tube. Interesting!!

They're actually not all that much flatter, but they are much wider. And the nice wide tree brackets affect their packing as well.

Interested to see how these double steps turned out. Like everyone, I'm looking for a way to modify what I have and I think the double step is a safer way to go. If they're a solid design I'm in for a set of 6!

I'm curious too.

Jim Stepp developed the JimStepp/WE Stepps because of a knee problem. It allows you to climb with one leg. This is like using a double step like on a muddy pro or hawk helium. Smaller foot placement but it works, especially if do have a size 14 like me. ;)
