It is on the way. 30 degree drop from Thursday to Friday. I want to get out Wed as well because it will be our first night in the 30s but I may not be able to due to some truck repairs.

So just looking for any opinions. I can go back and hunt the place I shot, without recovery, that big buck or go to another place I have access to. Here are the factors:

1. Place I shot the big buck I have been to twice. Last Wednesday I had a little spike walk under my tree with no disturbance. I have been the last two Wednesdays. Mainly pasture that is bordered by strips of trees. I have a pretty good setup where the deer move through within cover but open enough for a shot.

2. I haven't been to this property yet this year. Mainly woods on ridges. There is a fairly good travel pattern through the property but isn't as narrow or defined. Not a lot of oaks but there are some. There is bedding on top. I killed a 10 pointer out there last year and owner told me earlier this year he has seen a 12 or 14 pointer out there.

Just curious on different opinions.

Go for the new spot u haven't hunted but have good evidence of the trails. Fresh farm and first time on stand = best chance at ur deer.

Your wind direction from Thursday to Friday is almost 180. That typically makes the decision for you.

Wind will be very similar to when I shot that big buck. Northwest. It is pretty good for that travel corridor at the second property too. I know from an intrusion standpoint the second option is better. There is just this part of me that hopes the big boy survived and will be back.

My guess is there is a chance he survived but he won't be back. It's one thing for a buck to return to an area after being spooked, in my opinion it's unlikely he returns after taking an arrow. The buck in the story I told in your other thread survived, but he didn't return to the area for almost a year.

I had a buck one time that I broke his shoulder with a bad arrow shot. He stayed around the property for the rest of the winter. I suspect he may have died or got and harvested by somebody else because at late winter I never saw him again. But he was by my stand several times; I just never had another shot.

I have heard lots of stories like that. But I think I am going to let that spot rest for another week. I'll go back as we keep getting better weather and into the rut.

Good move DwadeCham! And Swampsnyper, you defined the only fight my wife and I ever had...

Her birthday is November 3, and we have an agreement that no celebration occurs unless it's 50° above the norm. And since she married me anyway...

So I guess our cold is gone after tomorrow and we are back into the 70s but I assume the rut is getting cranked up. Looking for that doe Friday I found a pretty good sized rub.

Guess it's close to time of being out there regardless of weather.
