Cool encounter with a loser

Serious question. By loser, is that meant cuz it’s missing an antler? Is that from a fight or can they fall off from scraps/rubs? (2nd year deer hunter so I’m still a newb). I mean I know they lose them later in the season but early on, can they just fall off like that?

I think what he means by "loser" is it looks like he came up on the short end of a fight with a "winner".

I suspect he broke it off, but breaks at the antler base suggest he might have run into something like the side of a vehicle or into a tree. It's not to say buck fighting hasn't kicked I to gear but again breaks at the base really suggest something other than a fight caused it...just something to think about

Loser meaning I assume he lost it to a bigger buck. in a battle. Notice the giant rub? He wouldn’t have made that

That's the first thing I saw. Probably seen his daddy rubbing that thing, then he tried and got it hung up around it and had to break it to get loose. I loose sleep when I find a rub like that.

Later during this sit I saw two studs that didn’t come into range. I was pinned down by does or I would’ve got some pictures! The bigger of the two would’ve easily gone 150-160”.
